Occasional nuisance.
Gen Z James Bond slams a mook's head through a washing machine, drowns them.

"Absolutely washed."

No judgement to said friends who have gone into marketing or PR - but maybe a twinge of jealousy when I learn how much you're paid comparatively.

You do what's right for you and I will sit here being sad and broke about it. #ausjourno #journalism #karaoke

Imagine tanking an election campaign so badly that you break up a 102-year-old alliance. #justduttonthings

Had a dream that I bought an affordable roast chicken.

Cost of living effects are in my goddamn subconscious now.

This is going to be my first election without Antony Green.

I miss him already.

If I was in the white house and was going to sack Pete Hegseth, I wouldn't even tell him.

I'd just add him to the group chat discussing his replacement and act like he wasn't there.

For any Henry Blodgets reading this, a small PSA: If you are going to try and fuck your computer, you NEED to have up-to-date antivirus.

So I've been scoping out flights for a trip later in the year.

For approximately the same cost, I could go to Singapore, Malaysia, S Korea and Japan and then back home.

Or I could go from Griffith to Melbourne 1.5 times.

Regional accessibility is an absolute joke. #flights #regionalaus #rex

Confession time:

I pretty much dismiss on sight any media release or request that comes through that includes 'Happy FriYAY' or 'MonYAY' or any sort of Yay.

If we're close enough for you to get away with that level of casualness, we're close enough for you to know how poorly that will go over.

If people need a bit of catharsis from the news right now, The new Wolfenstein games are on sale on Playstation.

Presented for no particular reason.

It's a weird feeling to be living in such a global newsworthy time, and still plodding away with local news.

Don't get me wrong, local news is important and we need more of it but... sometimes it's hard to be motivated to do 'Town angry about state of parks' stories when the planet is collapsing.

fuck me it's going to be a long few years.

This is the best I've ever looked in a photo, frankly.

Last month, the so-called American Academy of Sciences and Letters gave a medal to Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, who advocated for mass COVID infection. NY Post framed it as a “top award.”

We looked into it. AASL is 2 years old—part of a right-wing dark money network trying to transform elite universities.
The Invisible Hand: How Dark Money Is Inventing Prestige for Right-Wing Academics
The Academy of Sciences and Letters sounds prestigious, but is it really?

The issue with regional journalism that cuts me, more than anything else, is the isolation from the rest of Australian media.

What creates groundbreaking journalism is building off other work. SMH/Age breaks something, which is picked up by the ABC, which is interpreted by Crikey and the Guardian.

Crushed to hear today that the Dart Centre Asia Pacific will be closing down operations at end of January 2025 - due to a lack of funding.

All staff redundant.

They have done such amazing work and been a fantastic resource for so many journalists, myself included. Will be sorely missed.

The two Australian case studies in the Five Eyes release today about youth radicalisation are both white supremacist/far right radicalisation examples... The spy agencies tend to be a bit reluctant to call this out in isolation because of the politics around it. www.asio.gov.au/system/files...

So this weekend, I am hosting a get-together with a single rule.

All attendees must give a 5min presentation on a topic of their choice. Can be serious or silly, academic or casual.

Pitches so far include 'Radiohead' (just to piss me off), 'A History of M-Preg Fiction' and a Shibari demonstration.

There's an argument to be made that with the escalating self-infantilisation of adults on social media, removing children from it will do nothing.

A growing number of adults may simply take the role of children.
