I’m honestly shocked it took them this long to pull something like this. At what point will it just be bots generating garbage for other bots to ingest? Especially now that they seem to be actively driving away artists.

You may want to consider a different store. The Goulets support a vehemently anti-LGBTQ church and have continued to do so in the face of public outcry. Jetpens and Vanness1938 are fantastic shops

When you want the ink to last for a while, converters never hold enough. But when you want them to actually run dry, they manage to find several more pages than expected in there.

Depends on the ink.
Is it sold as a fountain pen ink with shimmer, like J Herbin 1670 or Diamine Shimmertastic? You’re good.
An ink not intended for fountain pen use may have binding agents like acrylic or shellac that will harden in your feed and may become impossible to clean. Get a dip pen.

I find the internet tends to exaggerate the danger of pigment inks. As long as it’s a proper fountain pen ink from a reputable company, you should be fine. A good cap seal goes a long way, too.

Diamine Forever inks and DeAtramentis Document inks come in lots of nice colors, and are permanent/waterproof.

Jetpens is great, so is Vanness1938. These are my main shops. For a good budget pen, it’s hard to beat a pilot kakuno, or a metropolitan for a more classic look. The Platinum Preppy/Prefounte/Plaisir are also wonderful.
