Nintendo Power, February 2007. When Nintendo of America's official periodical could get the names of Taj, Pipsy, Krunch, and Timber correct, but stumbled when trying to remember that the tritagonist of the Donkey Kong series isn't named Daisy.
An excerpt from Nintendo Power's February 2007 article on Diddy Kong Racing DS. Character Counts "The core team of characters is back to save Timber's island from Wizpig's stompin' hooves, but a few faces have changed. Diddy's bringing his Kong kin-Tiny and Daisy-in on the action to fill in the gaps left by Conker and Banjo. Taj the mystical blue pachyderm is also back to fulfill your every wish, as long as your wishes don't go much beyond training. upgrades, and unlocked content. Rub his magic lamp, and he'll also let you switch characters in the middle of your adventure-helpful if you're looking for someone who's quick off the line like Pipsy, or a high-speed cruiser like Krunch. For most races, you'll probably end up sticking with balanced characters like Timber. All of the great character animation that you remember from the old game is in the new version, and it looks even better than you remember it: the textures-often supersaturated and blurry on the N64-are crisp and bright on the DS. You say you want more than a few new characters and a paint job? Read on." Include a screenshot of the starting roster: Pipsy, Tiptup, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Tiny Kong, Timber, Bumper, and Krunch.
