Antifascist, anti-Vichy Democrats, anti-leftist purity police. Happily married grumpy old man (no DMs), movie aficionado, TV connoisseur, and general pain in the ass. And in case you missed it, I don't do unsolicited chats, so knock that shit right off.
The problem is that people feel out of touch with their government, and when you feel that way, you feel your vote doesn't matter. Government, that amorphous entity, will do what it wants, and none of it ever seems to help you, no matter who is in power, so why bother voting? So their thinking runs.

Storm troopers aren't soldiers.

I'm not saying voting should be discouraged, but rather that the majority of the populace desperately needs educating before something like this can be implemented without disastrous results.

Quite simply, they are fodder for every populist grifter that can tap into their angst. I hate to sound elitist, but forcing a majority population like that to the polls becomes very problematic very quickly.

Which to me explains the appeal of a candidate like T***p. If you can't read, or can't read well, you can't understand the basics of civilization, history, or civics. Your reasoning is stuck at the playground level, where insults won arguments. Emotions trump logic.

According to the National Literacy Project, 20% of adults in America are illiterate. How are you going to mandate that one-fifth of the nation who can't read or write votes? Another 20% read at or below a 5th grade level. A full 54% read below a 6th grade level.

When he returned he hoped to have some sort of ideas for "enforcement actions". Which could mean anything from peaceful protest to civil disobedience to some other lawful action that wasn't necessarily criminal in nature. Keep in mind, all this overheard from several booths away.

The other guy said he wanted to go hunting. Which is also not a crime. The first guy said he was traveling to Vegas to meet like minded people, which in context meant people upset about ICE actions. Also not a crime.

Further, they are alleged to have complained about ICE kidnapping people, which is a) true and b) protected speech. One of them said he had purchased a rifle capable of certain things. That may or may not be true and saying that is not a crime.

As I suspected, on further examination this case is even hokier. According to the attorney for these gentleman, this cop was seated at several booths away at this restaurant, so unless these guys were shouting I'd question what he exactly heard.
November 22, 2025 at 1:25 PM
What a conversation for a cop to have conveniently overheard. I wonder if said cop just happens to be bucking for a promotion. These two don't exactly strike me as the standard for radical terrorists. Something smells very fishy about this whole thing, if you ask me.

This has epic disaster written all over it. Like everything else this regime gets its grimy paws on.
