"You don’t install smoke alarms, acquire fire extinguishers, and buy home insurance because you expect a house fire. Rather, you recognize the value of insuring against low-probability/high-magnitude events." @jadler1969.bsky.social‬ from the archive on climate change:
Conservatives Need to Engage in Climate Policy Debate
Even if you believe that cataclysmic climate change is unlikely, the potential consequences are sufficiently grave to justify prudent action.

Bullocks. You will work in the same place as will your children. Bullocks.

Manufacturing dropped most of the labor hours because of automation and process engineering. You think that will stop?
Lutnick: "It's time to train people not to do the jobs of the past, but to do the great jobs of the future. This is the new model where you work in these kinds of plants for the rest of your life and your kids work here and your grandkids work here. We let the auto plants go overseas."

I don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison.

It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.

What some people aren’t factoring into their analysis is the reality that companies were buying tons of inventory to beat the tariffs.
That’s cash taken from being able to invest or hire. In fact the probably cut costs and jobs as a result.
