I recommend reading Marisa Kirisame's 'The Art Of War', she's one of the best in the field writing about how to insert yourself into complicated polycules and get away with it without disrupting the dynamic. Usually more than one at the same time, even.

And here is the alternative to remove the text and appreciate the artwork more directly. And just as before If you want the full resolution version or just wish to enjoy the individual Marisas as a standalone here is a link to a Zip for all of that stuff.

I dunno I just think it actually feels in character for a Touhou character to subvert the whole 'this person is wearing my dead friend's face and that's horrifying and fucked up' and instead go for 'this person is shaped like my old friend and she's kinda funny with it so she's my friend too :)'

Like... Do we not think that Kasen, the character who supposedly befriended Yoshika due to her poetry, wouldn't end this arc saying some shit about how beautiful and tragically life's end compares to the wings of a butterfly, and then giggle a little when Yoshika does a prank where her eye falls out

See the thing I think is so fun about interpreting Touhou characters is the part where you try and synthesize ideas that feel independent or exclusive

Like, Sad Tragic YoshiKasen Backstory can coexist with Yoshika Presently Is Someone Who Loves Being A Zombie, if you're brave

THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYINGGGGGG like, of course I am a pathetic glutton for these women and I want any excuse to have more Enoko or whatever, but I don't even know how you write Yukari in the 2020s without acknowledging how Okina recontextualizes her whole shit, it's so important to the vision for me
