Just finished my second annual photo session with my little cousin Josie, who just turned two. Hope this tradition continues for many years. I love playing Santa, especially for my family.

First fundraiser for the show was today. Time to settle my brain for a long winter’s nap.

Latest mystery book club read. I really liked this at the beginning, but kind of lost my connection with the lead character as the story progressed. Ultimately found the ending disappointing. That said, I’d likely read more from this author, if she writes more fiction.

He’s not even the mayor yet, and he’s already driving criminals out of NYC. Congratulations, Mr. Mamdani!

Mom made apple cake and apple pie, so I turned the scraps into apple juice. Then I tried a new way of pickling onions using just lime juice. Curious to see how it turns out.

Latest read - Never Whistle at Night. A collection of indigenous dark fiction/horror stories. There were a bunch of really good, scary stories. A very good collection, and it led me to add several of the authors to my TBR list.

Nearly all of my gardening failed this year, but I did finally get a pretty cosmos.

Another happy find at the Broadway Flea Market. A copy of Doric Wilson’s play Forever After. Signed by Doric. While I’ve seen several of his plays, I’m not familiar with this one, so I’m looking forward to reading it.

Another Broadway Flea Market purchase. This one from Chita Rivera’s estate. Inscribed by the author to Chita, who provided info for the Bye Bye Birdie chapter.

Trying out some vintage recipes from B. Dylan Hollis’s cookbook Baking Yesteryear. These are Hermits and Scotcheroos.

Latest read - What the Dead Know by Barbara Butcher. A memoir about her time as a death investigator in NYC, dealing with everything from suicides to 9/11. Well written and interesting, featuring a punchy and irreverent writing style. Was supposed to read this in book club, but just finished it now.

Latest read - The End of the World As We Know It, an anthology of short stories set in the universe of The Stand by Stephen King. This was terrific. The authors were varied (including several of my favorites), but they were all spot on. A must read for fans of The Stand.
