Dan Moore getting more than Ronnie Stanley shows the power of actually hitting the open market. If you can get a guy signed before the deadline, do it.

Retaining your own players is cheaper than shopping for new ones.

Kinlaw deal looks steep, but Washington had the money to spend. Allows for continued rotation with Payne and Newton, but man do they need to find someone on the edge.
Commanders agree to deal with former Jets DT Javon Kinlaw
The Washington Commanders made their first splash of free agency on Monday afternoon. The franchise agreed to a deal with former New York Jets defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw.

Another reminder about NFL free agency: The NFL has inflation. The salary cap is up $100 million *per team* in the past 7 years. It's price shock (like buying eggs)

In 2020, the Saints signed Drew Brees for $50 million over 2 years. Today the Titans gave $50 million over 2 years to...Dan Moore Jr.

Per Schefter: The deal is 3 years, $45 million with $30M GTD.

That seems like... a lot.
The Commanders have agreed to terms with DT Javon Kinlaw, source confirms. Kinlaw played with the Jets in 2024 after spending first four seasons with the 49ers during the Adam Peters era, if you were.

I just appreciate when teams buy into something. "Get every offensive lineman available" counts (and makes sense for a Caleb Williams-Ben Johnson offense)
The Bears are signing C Drew Dalman to a three-year, $42 million deal with $28 million guaranteed.

Per colleague Jeremy Fowler, free agent DT Jonathan Allen plans to visit the Vikings. Allen overlapped in Washington with Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell when O'Connell was an assistant coach there.

No better way to get off Twitter than the app failing <1 hour before NFL free agency.

Twitter being down for the start of NFL free agency really sums up how things are going over there.

Do numbers support the claim that referees favor Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs?

Sort of.

Expect a masterful Fangio defensive game plan in the NFC championship. What edges can the Commanders use to counter?

Think I need to start making more of an effort to spend more time on this site and less on the bad one.

Happy Thanksgiving week, Bluesky folks. Here's my profile on Magic Johnson, giving you something to read when your family starts talking about politics:

Black men didn’t own sports teams when Earvin Johnson grew up in Lansing, Michigan, in the 1960s and ‘70s.

Ben should get kickbacks from these new sign ups (myself included)
We are talking about Bluesky in the media room. Some folks are feeling FOMO, angst, and definitely peer pressure. Expect some new accounts this week.
