Fairmount Park's early history is also connected to cycling.

Just before the advent of cars bikes were incredibly popular in Philadelphia, and before cars were allowed in Fairmount Park people biking were all over the roads.

It's great to see that spirit continue into today!

While DC 33 seemed to have robust public support for its pay and benefit demands, the strike took place within a larger legal and political environment that made it difficult for the union to continue holding out for a better deal. billypenn.com/2025/07/09/a...

This is a do or die moment for politicians who represent Philly.

Save SEPTA from cuts and go down as a hero, or fail to do so and permanently have your reputation tied to actions that dramatically set back the 2nd largest east coast city.

This budget can still be changed if funding passes after.
The SEPTA Board will vote on Thursday, 6/26 to adopt a fiscal year 2026 budget with a projected $213 million deficit, which includes a 45% reduction in services, fare increases, and a 9 PM curfew for all rail services: wwww.septa.org/fundingcrisis/. #ISEPTAPHILLY #HowWeRoll #FundSEPTA

Honest question:

Do you think that when a typical person in your community hears the phrase "pedestrian safety" they think that refers to their own personal safety when they cross the street?

Talk about out-of-the-box thinking! If you see a large tricycle somewhere in Philadelphia, its red front compartment loaded with books, propelled by a serious-looking cyclist, that's the Free Library's Book Bike, and you just need to shout “Yo, Tyler!!!"

Following a DIY methodology called “tactical urbanism,” communities around Philadelphia are finding ways to provide services and information — and even, sometimes, signage — when it isn’t provided by more formal means.

Plenty of Philadelphians have followed that principle and taken direct action with a DIY methodology called “tactical urbanism” to fill in gaps where the city’s resources or infrastructure falls short. …“If the city isn’t doing it, we will.”

Thanks for covering this @billy-penn.bsky.social
