I think that Manchin’s response to articles like these show that he was always susceptible to public pressure, I just wish Biden was better at applying that pressure.

Seems the place to start would be 2 senates seats for DC. Coming out of 2020 that could have been strong racial justice message. 2 more seats would then open up a lot of other possibilities. Current party leadership, contra voters, wants to preserve counter majoritarian institutions.

And I think it’s not just the incoherence of the coalition but also counter majoritarian character of American political institutions. Even a relatively strong a unified Democratic Party would run into filibuster, Supreme Court, house districts limited to 435, etc.
