The Long Lake Fire in West Dalhousie has been expanding. As of this morning, NRCAN's interactive map puts it at
1,368 hectares. Today, 4 Fire Boss 802 skimmer planes from the NWT, will begin providing aerial support. Hopefully some progress will be made today.

Sun looked orange when it came up today. Skies here were hazy and pink looking yesterday. We have a bad drought going on here in Nova Scotia. Not the kind of weather you think of out here on the east coast. Terrible to see so many fires across the country. So dry everywhere. Where will it end.

Eyed Paectes (Paectes oculatrix) moth. This is only the third one of this species that I've seen come to the moth sheet in 16 years of photographing moths at my place. Its larval food plant is Poison Ivy -- a plant which I've never seen growing around my own property.

Happy 55th annual Earth Day! I'll be planting a couple of American Chestnut and Shagbark Hickory trees that I've been tending in my little tree nursery. They are part of my re-wilding project.

Here's a change from my usual political posts. Hopefully once the election is past, I will stop thinking about politics for a while and just get back to spending most of my time outdoors. Video of a Raccoon foraging for something in the decaying leaves. I see them doing this often on the videos.

I cancelled my Amazon Prime and Audible accounts 2 months ago and don't buy from Amazon anymore. When I cancelled the Audible account, I had to state a reason for cancelling. None of the bulleted reasons was appropriate.
I wrote: "Because I don't support companies that support a fascist regime."

Noticed when I opened a new package of Cracker Barrel Cheddar Cheese today. The packaging has changed. Now it has the PRODUCT OF CANADA logo on the front below the DAIRY FARMERS OF CANADA logo. Glad to see Canadian companies getting with the program. New and old image.

Along with the other Canadian provinces, Nova Scotia is legally required to make space for nature -- 15% protected by March 2026. It needs to step up the pace.

Yesterday, I got my nature journal blog up and running again after a long hiatus. I've decided to greatly reduce my use of Facebook. Here's a link to my first post in a long while. I intend to begin blogging almost daily again. Photos are my own.
