And done. First tart I've made, need to possibly pre cook the base first next time and do something to stop it sticking to the base. But the filling is absolutely delicious.

Onions with mushrooms and a beef gravy out into pasty and then covered in grated mature cheddar.

Well, @meganfoodhistorian.bsky.social 's shortbread recipe is great. Presentation issues are entirely mine!

Added beef stock, bay leaves and cracked pepper. Will reduce right down now.

Ok, five hours should be enough. Going to start adding stock and other bits.

You know how recipes say "takes 15 minutes to prepare. First, caramelise some onions."? That's a lie.

These have been on a very low heat for four hours now and are starting to smell fantastic.

May have to make some of these later....

After @detritus.bsky.social mentioned it a while ago, decided to go up to the source of the Ravensbourne River, it's lovely

Sexed up reboot of Ghostwatch on the way.

The only downside to really enjoying the play is that I'm now going to go and buy all the Le Carré books and further increase my To Read pile.

Perfect Tom Stoppard story from DTel obituary:

His response to a letter from Harold Pinter canvassing support for a proposal to have the Comedy Theatre in London rechristened the Pinter Theatre, “Have you thought, instead, of changing your name to Harold Comedy?”

Another man so cancelled that he's got a profile in the New Yorker magazine. There really are no consequences for these pricks are there?
November 29, 2025 at 10:21 PM
Well, that was excellent. Fantastic staging and the main cast were superb, especially Leamas, Liz and Smiley. Recommend seeing it if you can.

Interval. It's excellent so far. The minimal staging really helps bring out the noire side of the story. And Le Carré's humanity shines through. It's not going to have a happy ending though, is it?
November 29, 2025 at 8:36 PM
There's a piece about Le Carré in the program and this is very much something I've been struggling with recently. Except I'm not quite sure who I am.

Couple having a drink at the next table. English is not her first language, she just said "wherever I go, I always expect some buggery". 😬

Central London is absolutely rammed this evening, can't remember when it was that crowded. Couldn't even have a drink at the Cork and Bottle as it was packed, as was the Beaujolais. More good wine bars please.
