I hate the Americanisation of our high streets! But sadly, in some shape or form many of the retail businesses are American.

Probably not a good idea to announce on social media!

Enough playground antics. Get on with the job!

Scrapping 5% VAT on energy would be a better campaign as a 5% reduction in general VAT is likely to be less viable.

The EU has issued 19 sanctions so far. I’m sure the 20th will finally push Putin to leave Ukraine! This approach doesn’t work. Just cripple their economy hard and fast so they cannot circumvent them.

Finally!

The political system is well and truly broken with too many ego-centric career politicians putting themselves first before the public they serve. Ministers coming & going. This is also exacerbated by politicians being too close to the media to influence instead of holding them to account.

I doubt the judge would disregard the suspended sentence because it is an aggravating factor. The judge will be looking to set an example that if you reoffend while on SS the D must face the consequences. The magistrate court can only impose imprisonment of up to 12 months.
November 8, 2025 at 5:28 PM
The sentencing judge has discretion to activate the suspended sentence of 12 weeks if the D has reoffended while serving a suspended sentence. I think immediate custodial is looking likely.
November 8, 2025 at 3:09 PM
I’ve read the article but it doesn’t say how long the suspension is. Usually sentence is, for example, 12-weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months. The length of the suspension will be key here, it can be between 6 and 24 months.
November 8, 2025 at 12:30 PM
Depends how long the suspension is. The Guardian article doesn’t say.

If so, he could face an immediate custodial sentence at sentencing for the current offence.

Many would get fired for sleeping on the job!

Medpro were in the wrong. But so was the Government that failed to carry out due diligence as custodians of our funds. To top it all, the Govt won’t even get their hands on the surplus £600K because Medpro owe Barrowman - through a parent company - a secured loan of under £1m.

Ah, the US President that turned a blind eye to Russia invading Ukraine 🇺🇦 in 2014. Of course, he still won the Nobel Peace Prize. Sounds too familiar.

Based on my experience, I doubt they will mark you. Their systems probably just flagged up your return for review. Their financial investigators pursue the most serious, blatant and persistent offenders so I expect you are way down their list of priorities.

Another phone line is not the solution with the same resources. Just ramp up the number of staff especially around known busy periods.

Reform should be renamed Deform given their lack of knowledge, facts, empathy etc.

Patel only became Director of FBI in February 2025. His predecessors did not even seek his extradition which questions any evidence they have. Get facts.
November 1, 2025 at 3:25 PM
Just another attention seeking MP taking the moral high ground. I would not even rise to it.

Has she not defected to Reform yet?
November 1, 2025 at 12:23 PM
If evidence supports it, the FBI can bring charges against Mr Windsor and have him extradited, as they could have done in 2022.

Your case is where the expert was negligent, not as your agent.

I personally had similar experience with chartered accountants that, after 7-years, refused to pay a tax rebate they received on my behalf from HMRC. I sued them each personally as my agent, 7-years later.
October 31, 2025 at 2:54 PM
It seems the chartered accountant did the right thing by compensating you as it seems to be a clear case of professional negligence where acting as expert. Sadly I’ve seen it too often.

Comparing an architect with a property agent is neither here nor there. Liability is not so simply determined by a job title but capacity to act, authority, etc. Hence may claims in court. Some may be independent experts others may be less autonomous acting as agent instructed by the client.
October 31, 2025 at 12:45 PM
If “you employ them” then you are liable for their actions.

Liability is yours but then it is open to you to consider a claim against the professional.

Good luck with your argument when you receive penalties from HMRC. It just won’t wash.
