The Bradford Valley Lumber Co. is a freelanced On30 model railroad, depicting logging operations in Oregon, USA, during the late 1940s. Here you'll mostly find photos and video clips of running sessions, and posts about current projects. #modelrailroad
The latest addition to my On30 fleet. I've always liked the EMD SW9, it's one of my favourite diesels. So I built this from a Proto 2000 SW9, the cab from an older project and a scratchbuilt footplate.

It's got DCC, sound and a keepalive on board.

Got some more scenery done on my N scale shelf #ModelRailroad. Went for a sort of 'edge of town' feel.

There's a speaker hidden in the warehouse, which provides background noise. I'm planning to rig up a G scale sound module for locomotive sound too.

An easy layout for people starting on modelling realistic model train landscapes... Interestingly, it is very similar to the train lines in Iceland...

Photo from today's running, this time on the N scale Inglenook. S-4 no. 1528 spots a boxcar on the dock. #modeltrains

A photo from today's running. No. 7 is on pilot duty, switching coaches into the siding. In the background, no. 3 is resting, having just completed its run. #ModelTrains

Update on the N scale #modeltrain layout. It's now at a stage where I can run sessions on it, so I've put it in my home office

The signal enforces the Inglenook arrangement. For a train to shunt the rear track, it needs to request a clear track, which is handled by the #Arduino under the layout.

Update for the #modelrr feed.
#ModelRailroad update. The original feed for Model Trains will no longer be working, as BlueSkyFeeds.com is shutting down. As such, a new feed has been created at bsky.app/profile/did:... to replicate the old one. This uses a different service and so should stay online.

My main layout is in my garage, which turns into an oven for about half the year. Which means I can't run trains then. So I'm working on a shelf layout in N scale, for when it's too hot.

Here's Inglenook Harbour. Started as an Inglenook shunting layout with a loco shed and it's grown.

Some more running photos. Number 1, a Class A Dunkirk, takes a maintenance-of-way train to Camp D. #ModelTrains

This was my first On30 loco build, from a HO diesel chassis and a Boulder Valley kit. It didn't run as well as I'd like, and so has spent a few years in a display cabinet.

I recently had another look at it. It's now running well with a keepalive installed and extra details.

There are three cabooses on the Bradford Valley Lumber Co RR. Only no. 74 retained the original handrails, as they were laser-cut from wood and fragile.

I recently replaced the handrails on the other two with some made from copper wire bent into shape. These photos show how.

Some photos from today's running. No. 9 takes a boxcar to Camp D, and returns with 3.

Loco no. 9 was scratchbuilt using the mechanism from a Bachmann HO 2-6-2.

I bought these two standard-gauge boxcars when I first got into On30. Wanted to have them on the layout, but I only recently figured out where. By widening the staging tracks on one end and adding scenery, I managed to fit an interchange. Weathered the boxcars and put them on last weekend.

Now that it's cooled down a bit here in Australia, I'm able to get into the garage and run trains again. Here are some photos from today's session, the first of the year.

Intro time. The Bradford Valley Lumber Co. is an On30 #modelrailroad depicting logging in Oregon, USA during the late 1940s.

Most of the trains and rolling stock are kitbashed or scratchbuilt. All engines are equipped with DCC and sound, and Arduinos are used for layout automation.
