And I'm appreciative, less so for my own sake than for the world at large, that there are so many readers who remain committed to the project of critical thought. One worries that people will be beyond caring, beyond empathy, but that is not the case, and I feel like I can swim in that.

It feels good to think historically right now. History is always obliquely if not directly about the present, and I'm proud of the ways that the book offers critical angles that implicate warmongers across time, while also honoring people who deserve it, as well as nuancing things that want nuance.

It's gotten reviews in a bunch of places, including the Bangkok Post and other journalistic outlets. Just yesterday it received its first academic book review (from Perfect Beat). Upcoming talks related to it at Northern Illinois next week, IASPM in February, and UC-Berkeley in April.

It’s a hot book, perfect for academics and non-academics who like reading fascinating human histories of music, labor, and sex in the 20th century. You can’t go wrong.

It’s really a beautiful operation. Local people and businesses make it work thru donations and deliveries, and the packing is extremely fun.

Smart products at least have the excuse (a criminal one, but an excuse nonetheless) of lusting after surveillance. Motion sensor faucets only exist because the manufacturers decided they needed to change something, anything, to create a premium option.
