Testing a new bush/SAR ebike configuration.

Looks like heated seats, heated trailer and powerful searchlights will all work.

We'll be refining this proof of concept further.

It's getting cold out, so make sure your ebike is ready.

- Allow your battery to warm up to room temp before charging.
- If reduced range is an issue, consider a neoprene sleeve or a warmer for your battery.
- NEVER CHARGE YOUR BATTERY COLD!!
- Consider studded tires.

Not only is Halloween not dying, but it's better than it ever was when I was young. Decorations are crazy now.

Noticed yesterday that a random house in our neighbourhood is flying the flag of the United Federation of Planets!

You don't need to spend thousands of dollars on an ebike. There are entry-level ebikes that are perfectly acceptable for fair weather commuters.

I bought my daughter one of these Phoenix ebikes. Proved to be a reliable mount all summer long. Less than $800 CAD!

Reddit has narrowed down the field for "best Canadian." Looks like it's a choice between "the guy who saved my life" and " the other guy who saved my life." 3rd place went to Emily Stowe.

When asked about cycling as an option, a lot of Canadians will say something like "sure- during the 3 months you can actual cycle! HAHAHA!!"

This is one of the months where we supposedly just cannot operate a bicycle in Canada.

These guys really wanted to hang out with Ty! He would dig a little pond and they would occupy it. And yes we're at the beach in October.

Forget bike lanes. Some of our roads don't even have sidewalks! These neighbourhoods were built in the 70s when developers figured everyone would just drive everywhere for everything.

I wanted to eat one, but "in the nightshade family" and "toxic unless ripe" are too many red flags. Neat looking though.

It's -20 C in the image below. More than capable of transporting cargo and/or child, even off-road. Yeah cold affects battery range but as you can see that's not a difficult problem to overcome.

Just let the battery warm up to room temp before charging, and dress warm!

The train!

Advantages - Super comfy! Affordable! Brings you right downtown! No need to find and pay for parking! Relaxing!

Disadvantages - Takes 8 hours for a trip that would take 4 hours in a car! Leaves my town at 4:50am!

Wouldn't take much to remove those two disadvantages. #viarail

This pizza has peaches on it. I saw the insane toppings list and had to order it.

IMO it wasn't too bad.

Eddie's in Sudbury is a restaurant frozen in time. I used to eat almost every meal here in the late 90s/early 00s, and I can tell you that it has not changed one iota. The same guy is still bussing tables!

Our last family portrait from when we all lived together. Even after the last child leaves home for good, I'll always remember us like this. Godspeed little birdies. May you fly higher than your parents ever could.

Insane amount of grapes in Sudbury right now. Whole neighbourhood's full of 'em.
September 9, 2025 at 5:17 PM
Walked around the neighbourhood for a fall fruit tasting. Plenty of ripe fruit all over the place, ranging from "delicious" to "barely edible."

You can determine the effectiveness of traffic calming measures by how much drivers hate them.

Drivers HAAAATE this Mario Cart shit because it works! Big pick-up trucks slow right down lest they scratch their precious. Makes the street safer for cyclists and kids alike!

Fat tires on ebikes seem to draw a lot of ire. I understand a lot of people don't see the use, so why? Why would anyone buy a fat tire ebike?

Because, sometimes, this:

Ebikes work in big cities, but work REALLY well in small communities! Easy to plan a route to avoid main roads. Miles and miles of roads with empty sidewalks (nobody walks here), paved sidewalk boulevards, the occasional bike lane, and trails. Best of all nobody constantly complaining about ebikes.

Sudbury's iconic smoke stack is slowly getting shorter. Won't be long before it's gone entirely, but that's OK. As a community, we have enough going on that we no longer have to define ourselves with an industrial chimney.

This is what I'd call a quazi-ebike. It looks like an electric Vespa-style scooter, but it has been gamed to juuust barely meet Ontario's requirement for an ebike.

Limited to 500W, weighs less than 150 kg, cannot exceed 32 kph, has pedals (that are functionally near-useless).
August 20, 2025 at 1:28 PM
Ebikes can take you to places where cars cannot. The end of the road needn't be the end of the adventure!
August 19, 2025 at 5:14 PM
Took half the fleet out on a 30 km adventure.
