I'll go one further: any attempt to control pornography is an attempt to outright control the culture. When the government is allowed to define "decency" then anything the government doesn't like can be declared "indecent."

Any attempt to control pornography is at its core, an attempt to control women.

i wish it was that simple. this is about control. this is about an excuse to ban anything they don't like and call it porn. i wish this was as simple as a dude lashing out bc he's ashamed he likes porn but this is about flaunting the ability to remove rights from humans under a purity facade

This will most likely be going before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transport.

I took the liberty of doing up a list of every Senator on the committee plus the phone numbers for their Washington offices. Senators in bold are up re-election next year.

It's important to remember that when fascists say "phonography" they don't necessarily mean sexually explicit material - they often also mean anything to do with LGBTQ+ people whether it's sexually explicit or not.

Porn is not a problem the real problem here is parents aren't watching their kids and why should I suffer or be punished for it? And even if it wasn't a kids viewing it problem (which is more or less an excuse they use) i want to support sex workers and artists.

They literally tried to steal lunches from every kid in Maine while simultaneously stealing money from their education all because two trans kids (not two thousand or two hundred. Two.) dared to participate in student athletics programs.

Conservatives do not care about children.

I swear to God, if I see "protecting children" one more time I'm gonna lose my mind.

These people will say they're helping children and yet are opposed to free school lunches, mental healthcare for students, and stricter firearm control. It's just blatent lying and scapegoating.

The end game is to define people -- trans people, queers -- as pornographers for being in public, arrest and remove them.

And when they finish arresting “peddlers” and librarians they’ll go after people for possession. The right to own a book or movie — dirty or not — that the government declares obscene is fairly new, going back to the late 1960s.

They’ll reverse Stanley v Georgia if we don’t stop them.

The critical part to remember is this:

These people do not define pornography the way you do: they mean LGBTQ+ representation, they mean sex ed, they mean Netflix, they mean literature, they mean video games, they mean healthcare, they mean political speech.

The same bill was previously introduced (and died) twice in the Dem congress, but, as you're all probably aware, the politics have changed.

I think there's a low chance of *this* actually passing, but it's a sign: they don't respect the rights of adults to get off, even in private.

The "Interstate Obscenity Definition Act" release cites children, of course, but funnily enough the bill itself also bans it for adults. How odd!

And who could have seen this coming!
