For a cherry on top, there are several scenes with stunning cinematography choices particularly with regards to how lighting is used.

Rian Johnson's script again shows his mastery of the mystery genre and his ability to create a satisfying conclusion without relying on the common bait and switch tactics.

Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc is again fantastic at being eccentric enough to be highly entertaining while still believable when putting everything together.

The story is stacked with very well done characters that are fleshed out and very well played. It does take some time to introduce everyone but the opening keeps things moving and interesting.

I don't know if it is character development or some moral to the story that is missing but I can't shake the feeling that the movie is just vapid entertainment.

The story premise is fairly basic but serviceable and includes a couple of good twists. It is however lacking something to give it any substantial depth.

If you don't remember the previous entries in the franchise, you'll probably be ok as the existing characters are reintroduced with enough context to make things work. The structure of magic tricks again provides a fun way to present the usual reveal of how the various steps of the heist happened.

The action gets going once the game show starts and keeps the steady pace going. The action is good although maybe missing something to make it stand out. There is nothing wrong with the action but there also isn't much super exciting or unique about it.

The world shown is firmly in the dystopia camp of what the future will hold. It is also potentially too close to reality for comfort. There is a very clear divide between have and have nots along with reality shows and various game shows to give people hope for them to get rich.

There is enough time spent at the start to fully establish the core characters and set the stage clearly without feeling forced.

The laughs come regularly with a good variety of sources so it does not feel like they are going back to the same well over and over. In addition to the consistent comedy there is a solid look at relationships that many scripts would fail if they attempted it.

The various eternities people can choose from provide tons of fun background details and I would love to see a gallery of the different worlds that got worked up.

The version of the afterlife is a unique and interesting take that is interesting to see. The idea is that everyone gets to choose how they want to spend eternity by choosing from various options presented in the transition zone but once you choose you cannot change your mind.

While rom-com is a solid genre fit for the movie it does not use the standard tropes and formula of the genre. Instead of the usual meet cute with characters that have just met you have characters with real history dealing with the situation.

There is a fair number of decent observational humor sprinkled throughout, regularly creating chuckles but no major laughing fits. Several moments towards the end felt a little heavy handed in delivering the overall message but all in all it was well done.

They also pull the angel, Keanu Reeves, into the growth journey by having him get turned into a human that in particular helps it feel fresher than it could be. It does feel like the lead up to the swap was intentionally padded to help get a longer runtime.

The basic concept of the life swap putting characters on a journey of growth has been many times. This version puts a very contemporary slant with a focus of the difficulty gig workers have making ends meet.

Single mid credit scene so you don't have to wait until all the credits finish

At least one example of which could have been handled very simply by having a knocked down character take the action of screen instead of having it just randomly happen.

The story also has several moments where it doesn't know how to wrap up the current story beat so it instead just smash cuts to the next moment or comes up with a contrived solution out of nowhere.
