Everything I know about him gives the vibe of that guy in the bar who sidles up and tells you a series of barely plausible lies about how cool he is to try to get in your pants, and every email that I read further cements that.

Moderation of large sites is always going to involve both automated moderation and human mods who will miss subtext, context, sarcasm, etc at least some of the time. Don’t threaten to kill people, even jokingly, is like the tiniest concession to that reality.

The secondary problem is I thought about seeing if my wife wanted to go to it with me, but she doesn’t like in-person movies well enough to go to something she’s not *highly* motivated to see, and I don’t think she even really knows who Sweeney is outside of jeans-gate. So.

While she’s married to Mynes, sure. Once she’s being traded around the Greek camps, is she a princess or a sex slave with a fancy pedigree?

Not that that makes the poem about Achilles any more about fighting for princesses. But I don’t think he’s actually read it, and I doubt he knows it’s about Achilles or that Bryseis (or, snort laugh, Patroclus) exist. He thinks it’s a story about the Trojan War.

Call me crazy, but he’s probably talking about actual Princess Helen of Troy?

I’ve always thought of Bryseis as a sex slave and a passive status symbol, not a princess, but that’s what I get for reading a feminist retelling before I read the original poem.

Yeah, they should post at most a couple paragraphs and the link, and you should be a little mad.

Especially since they’re constantly texting us.

No, you are not. In fact I think it’s likely a Venn diagram.

I think some of the posters on Bluesky are also extremely invested in their identities as the downtrodden underclass, and evidence that they’re pretty well off, actually, threatens them.

Returning to those books as an adult and realizing Pa’s personal crisis of masculinity caused immense pain for his wife and daughters as he dragged them across the Midwest trying to make it as a rugged individual, rather than living in community the way they started in Big Woods.

Regardless of anything else, do these idiots know what it would do to the economy if that were to occur? Immediate, massive devastation.

We had multiple people who had been doing their role for years prior as contractors, who had finally gotten hired as Feds (a very common pathway) get fired because they were just unlucky in the timing.

For some people depending on hiring authority it’s *two years*

It’s only one register now, because the other cashier is stuck in aisle 15 doing corporate-mandated small talk neither he nor the customer can figure out how to end.

So weirdly Dr. Oz was at a football game my HS was playing (I think his nephew was on the opposing team or something?) and he jumped in to help with a player who got a serious head injury. He’s a good doctor who is too tempted by the grifting life, unfortunately.
