So while it's true that sheep must be sheared for their own wellbeing due to thousands of years of selective breeding, that doesn't mean that large-scale commercial wool is "harmless". We hope this clears up some misconceptions! 🐑

Wool ewes are also often considered multi-purpose, providing not only their own wool and meat when they age out of wool production, they are also bred seasonally to sell the lambs for slaughter.

Domestic sheep need to be sheared. Sadly they have been selectively bred to produce an amount of wool that can literally kill them. Here is thread all why we have to shear, but also why commercial wool may not be as harmless as you think.
