Living and gardening in rural Washington, previously AK,SD,England, MD. Loving retirement. Hating what is happening to our country. Struggling to find hope.
Just relocated this one, only because I read its bite is toxic and my dog is very curious.

I uncovered this little Northwestern Salamander as I cleared an area where I could pile leaves that I had raked up at a neighbor’s yard (I don’t have deciduous trees, she likes her lawn raked up: win-win). I put a little bark hut over him. I hope he does okay.

I leave most of my garden pruning until spring because I know the birds eat the seeds of the echinacea, etc during the winter here in WA. But I didn’t think my dead coleus in the containers would be of interest to them Glad I saw this. Junco was enjoying the coleus seeds.

I lived in Palmer, AK for 19 years and have been gone for 4 years. My heart is still there. Last week I went back for a short visit and it felt like going home.

Here in WA my garden threats are mostly deer and monster wild blackberry vines. Even my greenhouse is under attack.

A walk around the garden to gather flowers. My kindred spirit grandmother had grown a beautiful garden in West Virginia. I wish I could remember what flowers she grew so that I could recreate her garden. I remember it was laid out in a grid, with gravel paths in between. The flower details are hazy.
