I end up with a lot of interesting bits of wood, that aren’t really enough for anything. This week, I decided to give spoon and bowl carving a shot. The spoon, followed by the spatula, were done with power tools. I got gouges yesterday, and carved out the bowl…followed by sanders.

Made some renovations. It’s been a long time since something was as nerve wracking as taking a hole saw to an almost finished piece.

The Knotty Knockers and their stage are now available on Etsy. This set captures the warmth and merriment of Fall festivals, and will keep that spirit alive in your home year round.

Think I’m finished.

Presenting: The Knotty Knockers, live from The Brynwood Stage.

Walnut shell and polymer clay figurines, on a spalted maple stage, with a glycerine preserved leaf sign.

I’m making paper from leaves. I also mades dyes from walnut hulls, and the tannin heavy water from boiling the leaves for pulp.

Getting close to the finish line on the band and their stage. The sign is made from preserved leaves I made.

I also made a third, Goldilock’s sized basket.

I’ve learned how to make miniature baskets with 22ga stem wire, and 0.5mm waxed thread. It’s not hard, but it takes a bit to get easy.

I got a new, to me, lamp for my bench, to use when it gets dark. I have a very bright, very white LED bar over the bench, which is nice for some things, but I want a closer, warmer light for working at night.

Been building the “Brynwood Stage” for “The Knotty Knockers” to perform on.

Spalted maple from a tree we cut down a few years ago, and either tulip tree or maple twigs. I preserved leaves with glycerine this week, and may use them in the sign.

I’ve finished a band I started last week. I found these shells at @renfest.bsky.social so it seemed fitting to make them into performers.

I think they’re called “The Knotty Knockers.”

Might make them a stage to perform on next.

Not my usual thing, but I felt the idea needed to be pursued.

Finished two new “Ancients.” I don’t make many, because they are often competing with Acorn Knights for the damaged shells. I think everything natural on them is from my yard.

Two new Villagers finished, and added to my shop.

This time of year, I like taking leaves from the yard, to try and replicate. Feel pretty good about this one.

This is how every figure starts: checking the bins. Each bin is a different tree, because every tree has a different “face.” All the decisions are based on vibes and feel. I’ll go with whatever catches me. The top two bins are twigs, and assorted found items for accessories.

Struggled this third one’s pose, but fell in love with this bashful teddy bear. Really works well with the other yellow leaf, which was unintentional.

Something about this bugs me. The white dots don’t convey the same angle of the light source, so it looks like his eyes are spinning, or otherwise like one is lazy.
