I was wondering the same thing. I wonder if they are having to cordon off areas so he knows where to go, because of his dementia? Same thing with adding a sign to the outside of the Oval Office, so he knows what the door is.

They do not. They're made from very thin floral wire and waxed thread, so there isn't a lot of rigidity. The acorn caps being glued on makes them surprisingly strong in comparison. That said, it would probably be possible to make ones that open, if you brushed the insides with a clear drying glue.
