The latest Labour Left Podcast is out and I’ve been talking about Keir Starmer with Mark Perryman. Mark’s edited the best Starmer book so far - The Starmer Symptom. I think it’s fair to say neither of us are happy!

Yesterday Colchester had its 100th Gaza vigil. It was the anniversary that should never have taken place. The country’s mood is moving against the government & its complicity.

Keep pushing. #CeaseFireNow

Today we were out campaigning to boycott Barclays in Colchester as part of Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s Boycott Divestment & Sanctions (BDS) Campaign. The conversations brought back memories of our stand against Apartheid in South Africa during the 1980s.

Over forty people today on Colchester’s weekly vigil for Gaza. It’s an outstanding achievement for the organisers the they never miss a week. It’s notable that more & more passing motorists are hooting their horn to show their support for Palestine.

Well done to the @BritishQuakers your fine example as the first British church to state their belief that genocide is underway in Gaza leads the way.

The tide of opinion across the world is moving against Netanyahu’s Israeli Government.

In 2023 I wrote this for CLPD. We knew Labour’s economic policy under Reeves & Starmer would be a battleground. The time has come to stand up against the policies that harm the vulnerable. Please use the Momentum campaigning tools to demand a policy change. 1/2

#OTD in 1953 Stalin died. He did huge damage to the international socialist movement. The damage his politics did lasts to this day.

As a teenager I read Orwell’s Animal Farm, Homage to Catalonia &1984 these books made a big impression upon me and helped form my politics.

Reeves is not committed to the redistribution of wealth & income so she has to gamble everything on a ‘magic growth tree’ to deliver for Labour voters. In this context headlines like this 👇 are terrifying as they suggest Labour voters will face yet more pain & little gain. 1/4

27 Jan is #HolocaustMemorialDay

Many people of my age cut their political teeth supporting the Anti Nazi League & Rock Against Racism. We opposed Fascism, anti semitism and all forms of racism.

The populist right is on the march so as the poster says we must say “Never Again”.

We remember tank man on June 5 1989 literally standing up to the massacre committed by the Chinese Communist Party. Today, we must mark the arrest of Dr Hussam Abu Safiyeh who stood up to Netanyahu’s ongoing massacre in Gaza.
The cause of justice has no national boundaries.

Happy Christmas.

Today anyone who celebrates Christmas should stop for at least a moment to think of Gaza & the Palestinian people.

Next year we must redouble our solidarity with the Palestinian people, do all we can to end the killing & release the hostages.
