If you know, you know. Writer, GTA RP'er (I play Sunny Smith and L.J. Sage on ONX), and retro console enthusiast. I block unpleasant people and follow farmers. twitch.tv/BryceWithAWhy
Anyway, I could probably talk for hours about that magazine. It sparked my imagination in multiple ways and I'm forever grateful. If there's ever a book written about Disney Adventures, I'd be the first to buy it.

Speaking of originals, 1997's "Adventures of D&A" was wasted potential.

Like I remember thinking that as a tween. I wanted more from those characters and I liked the art, but the writing was so...I dunno, not quite there?

Especially compared to Bone which ran at the same time.

Then they drifted away from that and started doing different things, I guess to see whatever stuck. Movie adaptations, indie stuff, MANY more originals. Pop stars as secret agents and all that.

By the end of my subscription it was mostly originals, One Saturday Morning, Simpsons, and Pokemon (!).

The comics themselves were a microcosm of change in and of themselves. The California issues were effectively the Disney Afternoon in print (alongside the indie comics of course).

The last great hurrah of that era was the Chaos God series, which even got a reference in the recent DuckTales cartoon.

As an aside, I'm a sucker for magazine layout and page design. Disney Adventures' look during its California run was magnificent.

In fact DA's design choices after each editorial change kind of shows the evolution of 90s-00s design in general.

But the CA design will always be my favorite.

Anyway, it took less than 10 minutes from gut feeling, to research, to editing.

("Emerald Agassi" is still one of my favorite "bone apple tea" misspellings fwiw)

I don't blame the author for not knowing who Emeril was.

The admittedly tricky thing about it that initially tripped us up was that it wasn't a conventional faulty misspelling, and maybe we even thought "Emerald" was some famous chef *we'd* never heard of.

My gut feeling wasn't right so I did a quick Google search and found that "Emerald Agassi" didn't exist.

The author had misspelled "Emeril Lagasse."

This was circa ~2004.

But the guy saying it in response to "Antony & Cleopatra"?

I'll give him points for comic timing, that shit WAS funny

*shrugs again*

You just had to be there

Earlier this year while I was waiting on my ONX app, I hopped on a much smaller WL server and tried making an RP character based on my memories of this guy saying "Geleez" in junior high

The character was a complete dud

Idk why my classmates and I ever thought it was funny tbh

For context, this kid had a penchant for quoting the "Geleez Super-Smooth Crayons" commercials on TV around that time

This morphed into the kid making "Geleez" his catchphrase. He would say it daily in his kinda lispy, nasally monotone and it made the other kids laugh

*shrugs* junior high stuff
