Planting lettuces today and getting the ginger I sprouted into the greenhouse. Today’s lunch reminds me why I do this. Eggs from a neighbour in reciprocity for supper and broccoli and kraut all from her. The bread is my own but the flour is from our prairies.

Such a lovely swirl of animated conversation and joy this weekend with visiting friends. One is a chef and made risotto with sidestripe prawns. Last night I made a chard ricotta lemon galete with a leavened crust.

Amazing garden crossover time this year. Last of the carrots = 14l of carrot coco ginger soup, last of the apples making sauce and 2 more wks of “fresh”. And the garden this year!! Potatoes broccoli cabbage leeks chard and beets. ALL IN!

Never thought I’d be celebrating the likely win of a neoliberal banker as PM but Carney is a banker who actually believes we need to get off fossil fuels. Please vote Liberal if you’re in a riding where Trumpian Conservatives cd win. 338canada.com/federal.htm

Happy Valentine’s Day! We celebrated by picking our first bunch of citrus ever today. Washington navels, Satsuma mandarins, Mandelos (the BEST! A pomelo x mandarin cross) and Meyer lemons.

Amidst the gloom — beauty. Like on this hike up an icy hill with my crampon attachments accompanied by a lovely Workawayer Nino who has been so wonderful to have including while we were away.

Sad! Leaving 180 degree sunrises and 30 degree warmth! I know — crocodile tears from my fellow Canadians. ❤️

Lots of wind past few days and the ocean is muy frío! So it’s been reading — “James”— the Huck Finn rewrite by Percival Everett— AMAZING! And some amazing desert hikes. Today’s was epic— wonderful little mini canyons and beautiful rock formations and coyote scat and cacti and on and on!
