Could, or should, you usefully build open-source project work into your job search? Have you tried it?

Our @bryangb.bsky.social ponders the question, after chatting with OpenUK about its report on UK software skills.

There's many ways to build modern tape storage into your ESG & data governance plans & Hammerspace has just added one more: treat tape as an equal.
How much more will it take to convince the sceptics that, today more than ever, tape remains a top-tier option?

Are you investing in generative AI? Many are, but what does it even mean - is it direct, indirect, something else...?
A clear view here should help a lot with seeing where the real value lies, writes @Dale_Vile on our @ComputerWeekly blog

What does “Investment in Generative AI” actually mean?
I’ve found myself in a number of conversations recently where the discussion has turned to the speed at which organisations are investing in generative AI. More and more, however, I find myself ...

Based on this video, it looks as if Microsoft's dedicated CoPilot key will replace what's the right Ctrl key on my keyboards.

The ability - given the right software! - of NPUs to boost the performance of key functions, while actually using _less_ power, has the potential to make them a must-have for laptop buyers at the very least.
What's the point of AI-enabling a laptop or desktop when there's already so much AI compute power in the cloud? On our Computer Weekly blog, @bryangb.bsky.social explains some of the key whys and wherefores...

#VMware users and resellers - how's the #Broadcom deal working out for you so far? 🤔
If you're a #VMware user or partner, then you -like us- were probably relieved when the uncertainty over the #Broadcom deal finally ended.
But now you, like us, are probably back to being confused, as Broadcom seems to chuck it all up in the air again...

HMRC says the UK loses £BILLIONS every year to tax avoidance and evasion, but oh no, what matters - and what we might all have to give up our data privacy for - is an alleged £120m a year of benefit fraud. 🤬
When the Tories talk of "common sense", you know it is nothing of the kind.
💥 The UK's post-Brexit data laws will allow the authorities to regularly check bank accounts and store biometric data. At the moment, they say it will be limited to those on benefits or people who 'pose a threat'. But we all know they can't be trusted.
Changes to data protection laws to unlock post-Brexit opportunity
Common sense changes to the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill will safeguard the public, prevent fraud, and unlock post-Brexit opportunities.

If you have one of those #3UK Data Reward SIMs, with 200MB data "free for life" each month, I suggest you avoid re-registering it with their new website. They deleted the data allowance off mine, and I strongly suspect they're using re-registration as the excuse for cheating on their promise.
