If we still kept snowfall records, today would have been the 3rd snowiest December 18 and tied for 48th snowiest December day at the Annette Island Airport.

4 of the sites are currently unstaffed (the WSOs only have 1 staff member at each location), because of that 2 of those sites are closed down and the other 2 are only doing 12Z flights. One site is having equipment issues. Not sure what happened in McGrath.

Meanwhile, Annette got an 18Z flight because of the snow transitioning to rain system moving through. I wonder what happened in McGrath? Hopefully they’ll have a 12Z flight. Nice to see that Anchorage was able to get theirs off!

The lower clouds are being steered by the NW winds from the high pressure over western Canada while the higher clouds are associated with a stationary front to the south. You can see the wind shift from northerly to westerly in this afternoon’s balloon data, occurring near 750 mb (~7,900 ft today).

I would have questions if it said there were some possible! 😂 There have been a handful of days when the supercell parameters for here were pretty impressive…but few and far between!

Definitely got a little more snow over there! Thankful those crews do fantastic work on the runway and the pilots are great.

This was the Windy version of the GFS the other day for my station out by the ferry terminal. 2 weeks out, so la la land…but -10F? Noooo thanks!

It was kind of the opposite for me. Our IT strongly disliked whenever I walked in, because it usually meant some computer had the Blue Screen of Death 🤣 and it happened quite a few times haha

If only we had an observatory here like the Washington one. That would be fun to work at during these big storms!
