📌 I'm a game designer and writer. Previous work includes:

- Skin Deep (Additional writing)
- Fallen London (Lead designer)
- Neo Cab (Narrative Design)
- Pathologic 2 (Localization writing)
- Where the Water Tastes Like Wine (Writing)

...as well as op-eds, criticism, and interactive fiction.
I really struggle to keep track of which games I played for year-end list purposes because unlike with movies, there's no definite Endpoint to a game where I feel compelled to go and log it, so my backloggd is... very unreliable.

"recap your 2025 media consumption" brand-engagement moments feel wholesome to me in the same way a veggie-flavored chip tastes more wholesome than bbq chips

which is to say, not at all. we talk about ultra-processed foods, but can we talk about ultra-processed memories? ultra-processed identity?

Every time I glance at the UK they invented some new insane bone to pick with people living their lives. Apparently the government is now against Ritalin and [checks clipboard] the concept of women eating?

if you're into AI "advisors" and find their insights helpful, may I non-ironically recommend seriously considering: tarot

- connection to your subconscious
- therapeutic or confessional as need be
- patterns of meaning
- self-determined takeaways
- no need to google facts afterwards

7-2. I'm very unlucky so I didn't even get a Gran-Gran...

If retailers think this lossage is cheaper than paying checkout workers, it's basically just them operating at the natural margin of their business. Free market at work.

#mtg Honestly if you want my view of what's wrong with Standard right now, it's that black interaction is just a skoch too weak. The format needs either a one-mana targeted discard spell that's better than Duress, or a one-mana kill spell that's better than Stab, or both.

It's a very funny move of Wizards to ban broken izzet cards from the format twice and then just print a whole bunch of new broken izzet cards into Standard literally immediately after the bans

I'm just going to say this in advance of next year but I have zero intention of caring about the world cup, posting about it, or watching games because thinking about FIFA makes me vomit blood
December 8, 2025 at 12:22 AM
they really put Sephiroth, 47 spiders-men, and Azula in Magic only for literally none of them to even be relevant. instead the format is being dominated by an old lady, a weasel, and the bass pro shop pyramid

racists roll their eyes at this, they're not happy with any message short of 'send them all back' & they don't trust labour trying to pander to them. people who aren't racist recognise this as divisive patronising nonsense. labour's approval rating is 12% and i'm surprised it is that high
This is so disgusting.

"So how'd it go at the ripperdoc," I ask. My choom just pulls me into a deep kiss. His tongue is now a beer tap; his chest cavity a keg. His vocal cords are gone but his eyes say "chug"

They're both like, you know, "The Lord of All Seasons held in his many-coloured cloak four things, three of which were the seeds of long-extinct plants, and one which was Time." You know? You know, that kind of construction.
The upshot of all this of course is that I can just start saying "yeah Tanith Lee is a huge influence on my writing" because it might as well be true, any stylistic tics I get from reading a bunch of Gaiman in my youth is immediately evident in Lee's writing too

I did read the first chapter of Tanith Lee's *Night's Master* and:
1. yep, yep, Gaiman definitely bit this
2. shocked that this was allowed to be published in 1970s britain
3. if it were published today the author would be instantly exploded by psychic waves of puritan genre-fiction thoughtcops

Somehow I missed that the US Army actually went ahead with their confoundingly stupid plan to... go back to full-sized cartridge battle rifles? Century of American humiliation continues apace as arms for the imperial legions are now being procured by wraparound sunglasses warrior ethos guys

"How was it at the ripperdoc," I ask. My choom only smiles and opens his vinyl jacket to reveal the air fryer that now occupies his chest. I sensually pull out his drawer and look him straight in the eye as I bite into a chicken nugget, trying not to wince as it burns my mouth,

There is literally nothing you could do to me that would coerce me to sit down for a four hour movie in a theater. I'll literally chew my leg off to escape.

Seance of Blake Manor is interesting because obviously while mystery and investigation games are having a moment, most of them are very focused while SBM has more of a kitchen-sink approach with multiple interlocking investigation mechanics.

I feel like Accumulate Wisdom is kinda bad for Standard not in that it's necessarily a broken card per se but in that because playing it dictates 16-20 other card slots in your deck, it's going to be incredibly polarizing around "is Firebending Lesson good against your deck"

Worlds currently getting its ass beat by the old lady that shows up in the pilot of the show and is then never heard from again

oh my god. Ian Bogost is just evil Adrian Chiles
checking in on him whenever he steps outside of games criticism is much more quickly revealing of how he just feels the need to be contrarian for contrarian's sake

Sorry to keep going on about this but the other insane thing about assertions like "movies tell stories better than games" is like. Even if we accept for the sake of argument that you can define what "telling a story well" is, what does that even mean, exactly?

Interested to see how the time management mechanic in Séance of Blake Manor unfolds; it's obviously very thoughtfully and elegantly done (time only ticks down when taking certain actions which the UI comprehensively explicits) but these kinds of structures were out of fashion for a reason.
