You don't need to be a coder to figure this out. Simply type: tab age

You'll discover a smattering of 99 year olds, a few 100 year olds, a couple of 101 year olds, and a pileup of 150 year olds, but no-one in their 130s or 140s. That's a clear sign you've discovered a coding issue rather than fraud

Experiment at the intersection of chemistry and microbiology: cheddar jalapeño sourdough batard. Sweet/sour from the dough, umami and salt from the cheddar, and a touch of heat and vegetal from the jalapeños. Enjoy!

Field-specific expertise like this is why I feel scientists in other fields should collaborate with statisticians for their statistical analysis just as they should work with chemists for understanding how things work at the molecular level, etc.
Why you are not allowed to say that your 95% confidence interval contains the true parameter with a probability of 95%
A shibboleth is a custom, such as a choice of phrasing, that distinguishes one group of people from another. The term goes back to the Hebrew Bible, in which the inhabitants of Gilead identify members...

Here's the reality about the #LAFires this week: this isn't the first time ANY of these places have burned. Not even close. In 2018, we mapped CA fire history to look at fire frequency across SoCal. Santa Monica Mtns area burns more than anywhere else -- up to once per decade in a given spot. 🧵

People sometimes make fun of science that sounds stupid and random.

Meanwhile, a study of lizard saliva turned into a peptide medication, which was turned into a diabetes medication, which was turned into a GLP1 weight loss drug, that just became the first therapy every approved for … sleep apnea
Breaking News: The FDA approved use of the weight loss drug Zepbound for a common form of sleep apnea. It is the first drug authorized to treat the disorder.

I am delighted to share our latest piece of research:

‘A global cross-cultural analysis of string figures reveals evidence of deep transmission and innovation’.

This was long in the works and is by far the largest project I’ve led to date.
