The adversarial system puts the burden of noncompliance for wage collection almost exclusively on the employer in the US, by fee-shifting statutes. The District of Columbia actually has a quadruple damages remedy that’s mandatory. Example (public record) from my recent practice attached.

It’s reasonable to trust experts, but there’s a difference between trusting someone as the least unreliable option in an unreliable world, and accepting someone as infallible.
