They got the GOP to cave on all that. More than anything else, they have shown the GOP is akin to a death cult. What Americans choose to do with this knowledge is on them. History shows the longer folks refuse to rise up against the GOP, the harder it will become until there's no removal at all.

Without the general public rising up in continuous anger against them, Republicans had no reason to fold. Their base isn't going to abandon them. They get to punish people they feel needed punishing. They lost no sleep or pay themselves. And they created more infighting between the Dems.

There's likely some truth to that theory. I just point to history and note that numerous times, white folks have chosen to save themselves to the detriment of minority well-being.
