Here's a quick video showing the prototype chassis for my #3Dprinted #TTTE Thomas. This was filmed alongside the Lady running session. This chassis has a lot of improvements over Lady, making it a whole lot quieter. I hope to get the body shell done for it soon. #modelrailway #Thomasandfriends

After the disaster that was the old motor, I've reverted to the earlier coreless motor that I originally put into this model. I'm not sure whether it will be powerful enough to move a large train, but it should do the job until I can buy more motors. #3Dprinted #Modelrailway
A top down view of the 3D printed chassis for my LB&SCR C class. It is an 0-6-0 wheel configuration with a coreless motor connected to the back set of wheel with a geartrain. Two wires are coming out of the motor as I've not soldered it to any pickups yet. The locomotive is also sitting on 00 gauge track. This is the same chassis but shot much lower down and on the other side of the locomotive. The worm gear to geartrain is shown more clearly here. This is from the same side of the locomotive as before, but from a higher shot.

UPDATE: So these motors CLAIM to run up to 12volts. However I tested one on my new controller and set the speed to maximum... Yeah... It managed to MELT the back bearing XD. So its useless. I've said it before, I'm so glad I didn't do something so stupid and buy like... 30 of them :) #modelrailway
Me holding a small box shaped motor that was supposed to run fine up to 12 volts. However it managed to destroy itself on the track. The back of the motor is on display showing a massive hole in the plastic backplate.

I wanted to quickly show a recent purchase of mine. I got a new controller since the last one was faulty. Its a Gaugemaster COMBI which, unlike the faulty one, is compatible with coreless motors. So I can now run my #3Dprinted Lady locomotive. Expect some running sessions very soon. #modelrailway

I've started printing the prototype for my #3Dprinted Thomas model. I've designed the chassis to not need any soldering by having the pickups pressed against the contacts of the motor, saving a lot of hassle in assembly. #modelrailway #TTTE #Thomasandfriends #3Dprintable #00gauge #3Ddesign
Side shot of my 3D printed 0-6-0 chassis. The chassis sits on 00 gauge track. The mechanism comprises of a large 5 pole motor positioned in the centre of the chassis with a worm gear that gears down to the front driving wheels. One of the front wheels is off to make it easier to swap out new test drive gears as improvements are made. This shot shows the mechanism from the other side and at a higher elevation, on this side the drive axle has a wheel still attached. The wheels are not yet connected with a crank rod as I haven't got crank pins for them yet. Another side shot of the mechanism lower down.

I've spent today working on converting my #3Dprinted Windup Thomas to electric running. The model will use the same 5 pole motor that I used to upgrade the motors in my Hornby class 264, at least I know these motors will work unlike the other ones I bought. #modelrailway #TTTE #Thomasandfriends

The chassis will then be hollowed out to allow for weights to be added once pritned. These are reference for the metal wheels that will be added once printed. Final shot of the entire model with the main body shell on display. I've recently rebuilt 2 scrap locomotives originally used for parts. The first loco is this 264. The body's in bad shape, its got no chimney and is cracked. But I upgraded the motor inside and it does seem smoother. Here it is running with my #WIP #3Dprinted Furness coaches. #modelrailway

I've never bought a brand new locomotive before, most of mine are Triang, but I've just put down a preorder for these models. They are quite cheap and brand new so I wanted to give them a look. Love the design of the B4, and the playtrains loco reminded me of one of my #3Dprinted windup locomotives.
Hornby playtrains steam tank engine. A small green tank engine is sat next to the box listing several features like sound, lights and wireless control. In front of the box is a charging cable as this locomotive runs on an internal battery. Hornby B4 new tool locomotive in a green livery. It uses the old style 0-4-0 chassis made popular by the Hornby class 264 locomotive. This is the same B4 locomotive except in a black livery.

I've designed some #3Dprintable wide NEM couplings so I can couple up my older rolling stock, with the out of date couplings, to my new #3Dprinted stock and engines. These couplings will be added to my NEM files on #Cults3D soon. #modelrailway
A 3d printed Class 264 sits just off camera, it is using a wide NEM coupling to couple to an old Hornby coach. This coach is then attached to one of my 3D printed Furness coaches using the same NEM coupling. A close up shot of the back end of a hornby class 264 which uses the old style coupling. Behind it is a Furness railway coach which has been fitted with the 3D printed wide coupling to become compatible with the locomotive.

I finally got my first basic layout set up. Now I can start running my engines and testing out my #3Dprinted rolling stock. This is a little video from my first running session so please excuse the video quality. This is the train that came with the set. #modelrailway

Here's some of the first prints of my #3Dprintable Furness coaches. I'm not too happy with the outcome. The coach seems a little overscale somehow, and its taking a lot of work to get the coach to sit on even the widest radius track due to the wide wheelbase. Still a lot of work to do. #modelrailway

This shot shows a side view of the coach. The 6 wheel arrangement can be seen from here. Side shot shows the backside of the coach, steps up to the roof along with a railing are positioned on one of the ends. Buffers and coupling hook are not yet printed as this is just a prototype. The locomotive needed a lot of cleaning, the chassis was filthy. But its been cleaned and serviced and runs well. The chimney was replaced by the original owner, so I may get another one in the future. Soon I hope to get the track setup and show some video of it running. #modelrailway

All this time working on locomotives I've not actually had a layout. So I finally decided to spend a bit and get one. When I was very young I got my first train set, however I was too young for it and it got wrecked. So I wanted to buy the same trainset I had as a kid. #modelrailway #00gauge #Hornby

I've been a bit burnt out recently so I've not done as much project wise. But I spent time today working on upgrading my #3Dprinted "rolling stock pack 2". Here are some of the tankers now using metal wheels instead of the plastic ones (I had to derail them to stop them moving XD). #modelrailway

This is a side view of Coach 2 in my 3D printable coaches pack. The shape of the coach is similar to coach 1 however one end has been edited to become a guards coach. This shots shows off one of the back ends of the coach, showing details like the NEM coupling and also buffer details like the coupling hook. This end is unique as it has extrusions on each side with windows, allowing for the guards to look down the length of the train. The other end of the coach shows similar details, however it does not have the guards windows extruding from the sides. It also has steps leading up to the roof with railings for the guard to use.

I've had an idea of stripping the guts out of one of these playtrains locomotives and seeing if I can put them into a #3Dprinted chassis for the 14xx. That way I could use plastic wheels as the playtrains loco has it's own on board battery. And its still compatible with metal track.

Progress is moving quickly with my #3Dprintable Furness coaches. All that's left is a few more details and this should be done. This will be one of two coaches in the pack, but it shouldn't take long to alter the design for the second one. #3Ddesign #modelrailway #Blender

I MAY have fixed the gears. I've decreased the number of gear teeth while maintaining the gear ratio and overall size of the gear. This makes the gear teeth bigger so they print better. The only outlier is the gear that connects to the worm gear, which is the original size. #3Ddesign #modelrailway
