3. Expect performances of loyalty. At Twitter they had our engineers print out their code, line up and have their code reviewed. This was obviously stupid and purely performative. You will likely have to do something similar. It won’t help you keep your job.

4. You cannot rely on leadership to protect/cover for you. If you are a team lead, QUIETLY prioritize your teams health.
The painful reality is that many managers will throw whoever under the bus for self preservation. If you’re one who gives a shit, knowing your job is on the line, hold space.

4a. If you are a leader who gives a shit, help with an exit strategy.
Many gov employees haven’t been on the market in a long time. OFF OF GOV TECH - arrange resume reviews, hold informal sessions with industry colleagues. Ironically, I did this for my team with gov teams in 2022.
