Good morning 🤣
@morningjoe-msnbc.bsky.social I am listening to Joe Scarborough right now and he’s full of shit. How is he trying to compare what’s happening in DC to the defund the police movement. The police movement had nothing to do with removing the police it had to do w/ moving funds from one area to another

1. Safety in numbers.
If you are not in signal chats already, find one. You disseminate information and learn faster with your trusted colleagues. Even if you are wary of sharing, at least listen.

2. Wait before taking any action.
Yesterday’s “Fork in the Road” email was reminiscent of ours. It meant nothing for us and it means nothing for you. Glad legal minds have debunked it.

3. Expect performances of loyalty. At Twitter they had our engineers print out their code, line up and have their code reviewed. This was obviously stupid and purely performative. You will likely have to do something similar. It won’t help you keep your job.

4. You cannot rely on leadership to protect/cover for you. If you are a team lead, QUIETLY prioritize your teams health.
The painful reality is that many managers will throw whoever under the bus for self preservation. If you’re one who gives a shit, knowing your job is on the line, hold space.

4a. If you are a leader who gives a shit, help with an exit strategy.
Many gov employees haven’t been on the market in a long time. OFF OF GOV TECH - arrange resume reviews, hold informal sessions with industry colleagues. Ironically, I did this for my team with gov teams in 2022.

6. Don’t expect lawsuits to save you.
Too many people are placing their anger behind a legal system expecting to sue. It’s 2025 and most of us at Twitter are still waiting for any resolution. Trump and Elon have the same strategy of legal attrition.

7. Preserve your sanity. This is a marathon, not a sprint. You don’t have to know every detail of everything happening. It’s a lot of theater. Try to read the signals in the noise and then throw your phone in a closet and take a walk.

Question - does this include datasets?
The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

If you are a gov employee please do not use your gov devices to coordinate.

Do not use standard messaging on your Android or Apple devices. Don’t use WhatsApp. These CEOs will likely give your messages if asked by the administration.

Please use Signal and set your messages to autodelete.
An EPA staffer says this message is going around re: latest Microsoft computer update:

"It’s likely your status on Teams is being monitored, and a hint was dropped to us by someone higher up in EPA that they may be monitoring Teams calls.

We now have to be careful of what we say on Teams calls."
