The USA - from the UK (or EU) perspective is now an unreliable ally at best or is now a hostile state at worse (the defence strategy aligning the US with Russia is indicative).
The EU now has to work on the basis that the US cannot be relied upon to support NATO and this could happen again.

There is nothing in it for him personally.
I doubt this episode changed people’s minds: I already thought his views were awful and this confirms it.
Reform voters don’t care what he said at school - already many are describing his behaviour as ‘playground hurty words’ rather than racism.

Looking at reports of the defence strategy it seems the US is pulling away from NATO and aligning with Russia.
Bearing in mind the whole point of NATO this would be end of US involvement forever, and the US would be regarded as a hostile nation.
US military bases should be removed for this reason.

I’m interested to see Farage’s reaction if this story has legs:
1. ‘It’s not true, I didn’t do it’.
2. ‘I didn’t knowingly do it’
3. ‘It may of happened but I didn’t know anything’
4. ‘Bernard Manning! Bernard Manning! Bernard Manning!’
December 8, 2025 at 6:10 AM
No he isn’t - those that support Reform are describing it as ‘playground hurty words’ because it’s everyone else’s fault that he is found to be offensive.
Everything is a single issue and they can’t join the dots: I see a compulsive racist liar Russian asset. They see ‘straight talking hero’.
December 7, 2025 at 8:00 PM
If you intend to vote Reform it will be mainly (only?) due to its racist policies because, well, they are racist themselves.
So his ‘playground hurty words’ won’t register because they were either saying the same or were too coward to say it but were thinking it.
The rest find it abhorrent.

It’s a bit tenuous though: the Eurovision Song Contest is so wildly popular in Israel that the govt is not shutting down a media company as a result? This is a govt that has razed Gaza to the ground- I doubt it wouldn’t shut down the media in a heart beat.

Oh well done 👏- best post I read today.
December 7, 2025 at 11:10 AM
I think they are playing a longer game.
Reform is high in the polls which combined with the support the Tories currently have leads little desire across the whole electorate for full EU membership.
The case has to be stronger to convince idiots (Reform/Tory voters) that it’s in their best interest.
December 7, 2025 at 11:08 AM
It is but only if people recognise what is happening.
The US election shows that even with a super strong economy people voted for Trump as the message from the media was that everything was awful but would be better with Trump - even though it was obvious that this wasn’t true.
December 7, 2025 at 7:24 AM
Farage won’t be ousted - it’s in the MSM and billionaires’ interest for him to stay no matter how awful he is.
And a quick check across to the US indicates that he will sow chaos and then suspend elections until ‘normality’ returns.
December 6, 2025 at 8:12 AM
I believe that many voters got very used to the Tory merry go round of replacing leaders every 18 months (or less).
Hence the screams for ‘Starmer must go’ as he made a couple of unpopular decisions.
Hence they believe Farage will only be in for a short time. But I agree: he wont go at all.
December 6, 2025 at 8:09 AM
This seems to be British and BBC phenomena really. The BBC will scour the world for awful stories and present as though it has earth shattering consequences. It will only report bad news from the EU - dire growth figures or disaster.
The news in the EU is far more positive and will have good news.

The only topic guaranteed to appear on QT each week is immigration- usually because there is a seat reserved every program for Reform (over every other political party or group. If they can’t make it, a right wing think tank or journalist will keep the seat warm.
December 5, 2025 at 5:49 AM
Who was this letter written to? Farage is referred to in the third person - ‘he did this/didn’t do that’ but not ‘you’. What were they taught at Dulwich College?

I loved the way it was produced as if it explains all, but one side only, not available for scrutiny and anonymous.
December 5, 2025 at 5:43 AM
Not all Reform voters are racist (they don’t understand Reform’s ‘policies’) but I suspect all voting racists support Reform. They will be cheering him on, excusing his racism as ‘playground banter from 50 years ago’.
Farage’s misdeeds need continual exposure, the more varied the better.

Kent - the ‘flagship’ Reform council - has witnessed no identified savings (despite promises), an over spend (despite promises), an expected increase of 5% in CT (again despite promises) and more suspensions, arrests, court cases, defections and mismanagement than you would have thought possible.
December 4, 2025 at 8:08 AM
So Reeves lied and mislead everyone, Prof Miles from the OBR is an unreliable witness and lied to the Treasury Committee?
Starting to see to a possible pattern here?
December 4, 2025 at 5:32 AM
I rest my case.
December 4, 2025 at 5:26 AM
And then told both groups ‘that he never said that’, then ‘never deliberately said that’, then ‘never directly said that with intention to cause confusion’ before finally admitting that he did say that but didn’t mean it.
And so on, ad nauseum…
December 3, 2025 at 5:03 PM
I would vote whole heartedly for any party (assuming Reform don’t have a complete volte-face) that stated, ‘Brexit was a mistake; the cost to the country was dear. Our aim is to rejoin the EU at the earliest possible opportunity and within three years of being elected’. No referendum needed.
December 3, 2025 at 4:57 PM
Bloody ‘listening age’ of 65! I was incensed…
December 3, 2025 at 4:51 PM
Very good 😊
But your point is also valid that it takes a special type of pathetic to actually dispute this and an even more pathetic journalist to report this.
December 3, 2025 at 3:51 PM
In the light of the recent announcement by the OBR I think all of this needs reappraising, starting with an apology from Mason with his ill-judged and misinformed attack on Reeves.
December 3, 2025 at 2:37 PM
‘It was just banter’ I think he said.
