@crobertcargill.bsky.social watched Black Phone 2 here in Poland today. It's great to see such progression in narrative. Strange, but at certain parts I was getting Doctor Sleep and Ice Storm vibes. The sound design is insane and the mythology textured, I'm looking forward to a second viewing.

RIP Terence Stamp, had the pleasure of meeting him very briefly once in Edinburgh and he was the perfect gentleman.

Saw The Devil Smokes (and Saves the Burnt Matches in the Same Box) as my final film at the festival. This won the audience award and it's an interesting take on family dynamics and superstition.

About to watch my final film of this year's festival...

Been a long time since I was stunned so badly by a scene in a movie #sirat.

Watched 'Sirat' at the New Horizons international film festival. I think this is my favourite film of the festival. Óliver Laxe’s movie is many things, an exploration of the power of music, community and family. It is also shocking in the most surprising ways. This is essential viewing.

Watched 'The Young Mother's Home' at the New Horizons international film festival. This new movie by the Dardennes is a slice of social realism set in Liege. It follows a group of young women learning how to be mothers. The young cast excels here and the story and directing are never heavy handed.

Does anyone remember the movie 'Mrs Parker and the Vicious Circle'? Loved it on release but rarely hear anyone mention it?

Watched 'The Ice Tower' by director Lucile Hadzihalilovic. It's a beautiful movie about obsession, The cast is led by Marion Cotillard but it is newcomer Clara Pacini who captivates. It is both fairytale and social drama and at times reminded me of Lynch, don't miss!

Watched 'Nouvelle Vague'by Richard Linklater at the New Horizons international film festival. I'm a big Linklater fan, especially the Before trilogy. This look at Godard making 'Breathless' beautiful to watch, evocative, funny and a must for any fan of French new Wave cinema. Highly recommended.

Just watched 'It was just an accident' directed by Jafar Panahi at the New Horizons international film festival. The Iranian director has produced a stunning film full of political anger, black comedy and the possibility of hope. I was floored by this movie. If you get the chance see it!

Just saw 'Splitsville' at the New Horizons international film festival. It's been a long time since I've laughed so much. Adria Arjona and Dakota Johnson shine but Kyle Marvin & Michael Angelo Covino steal most scenes. Reminded me of the type of screwball comedy we've not had in some time!

Just watched Dreams (sex love) by director Dag Johan Haugerud. The second film in his trilogy was magnificent and lead Ella Øverbye was a revelation as Johanne who finds herself navigating teenage desire. Close to a novel due to the clever use of voice-over, Ella is one to watch for the future!

Next up at New Horizons International film festival is Hot Milk directed by Rebecca Lenkiewicz. I'm a big fan of the book so am looking forward to seeing how it translates to film.

@markfrost.bsky.social Hi Mark, how are you? Do you have any news re the opening of the David Lynch museum here in Poland? Will you be paying a visit, perhaps for the opening?

@markzdanielewski.bsky.social Hi, greetings from Poland, we are reading House of Leaves for our book group this month. If you could ask the readers in my group one question about the book what would it be? Let me know and I'll make sure to ask them this week!

Mission Impossible Final Reckoning is a strange nox of nostalgic beats mixed with a lot of impressive action, Cruise is clearly still one of the few American movie stars. The pacing could have been better but it was a fun time.

Saw the incredible documentary 'Riefenstahl' today. If you get the chance to see it anywhere grab it, even more relevant in today's world.
