So true. I feel like #1 might actually be “struggled in school (except for that one subject)”. I meet so many people in games that were far from straight A students, but are savants at their one or few things.

The goal is iterative development, but capturing your intent and learnings as you go has valuable. Honestly it’s been most useful to me 5 years down the road when I’m looking to update an old game or remembering why we did something.

Creating a comprehensive GDD early in the project is definitely an antiquated process. Even more so for solo or small teams. However I have found that developing “1-pagers” as I go, and then collecting them in a central source of truth for other disciplines and external partners has been valuable.
