A cautionary example - especially in light of the recent government shutdown in the U.S. - of the risks that come with government run health care.

So here’s the problem: if you compensate someone for 72 hrs/wk, then absolutely expect 72 hrs/wk.

The problem is there’s a growing expectation by employers to just work more and not get an increase in pay.

And worse - it’s rural wages for work in Silicon Valley.

Ok, in the rat race of 100 things to wrap up before vacay, stumbling across the Cookie Settings dialog on @jetbrains.com website was oddly refreshing. Nicely done.

Having just traveled to London, I made an interesting observation: the BBC news app shows/headlines for more British news when I’m in England, while flooding me with predominantly US news when I’m home.
1 of the worst outcomes of the UK and US sharing language is UK institutions (BBC/Guardian), celebrities etc realise that the US is the big market for them and so position themselves accordingly. As a result the BBC and Guardian and other become obsessed with the tawdry domestic politics of the US

I have a little confession. Sometimes I like to go into Best Buy and just listen. I pretend to be shopping or modem bearings or a left handed torque wrench. What I'm really doing is hearing how people sell computers. I remember when 8x CD burners were all the rage. I recall picking one particular machine because it had an integrated Sound Blaster card.

This era of news and politics is all about shock and awe and outrage.

If you don’t actually read the source material for that news, you are likely misinformed.

For those who can’t be bothered with reading two whole pages, there’s an FAQ.

@bsky.app is the “following” feed supposed to have non-reposted content from people you don’t follow?

Seems like the behavior has changed recently.

Like the restoration of Internet connectivity, so returns the outrage of government abuses of power.

(… for clarity, just the outrage as the abuses have always been there …)

Pinned message: I lurk here and just try to keep up with friends.

Don’t expect earth shattering content or posts as (a) I don’t have much time, (b) X/Twitter/BlueSky are horrible media in which to do so, and (c) you aren’t really interested in dialogue anyways, just reinforcing opinions.

I wonder if we can get CiscoLive over here and really stress test the system twice a year?

(Yes, I know there are 3 but they are dead to me until I get an invite to speak there)

While it’s certainly not perfect, there are definitely some things #Cisco gets right. The #DayForMe company wide provides all the air cover to unplug and recharge.
