everything i do here is a psyop intended to get you to see my cats

Mormons have a radically different conception of God and divinity than mainstream Christians, but they still have far more in common with those Christians than with Shinto practitioners

You were saying that Mormon beliefs were more like Shintoism than mainstream Christianity, and the example you used only works if you erroneously map "kami" to "god"

Kami are more like spirits (but still not identical), and last I checked, Christians also believe in immortal spirits

Kami are not gods in the Christian (or Mormon) sense and it is incorrect to interpret them that way.

For evangelicals, Mormons are Christian when you can weaponize them against someone else.

Shinto doesn't believe any of that though? Shinto is an animist faith and Mormons can't even be loosely described as animists

Japan has a very large-scale and successful TNR program, so if you were in big cities and tourist areas, you probably wouldn't have seen many, but rural areas can have large stray populations.

It's the same phrasing that Japanese signs use for "Watch Out for Pedestrians" signage, but it's not an official sign. It was probably put up by a homeowner with cats (or someone who cares about local strays).

I'm trying to think what order would be the funniest to have the one school that didn't play it and laughing harder at each combination

Empress is not a person whose judgment you should trust about basically anything.

I appreciate how much restraint it must have taken for you not to respond "don't you know who I am?" and instead focus on the things that the AI obsession is factually making worse

999 in that category was like a punch in the gut (in a good way)

The "serious response" should start from a position of understanding that they aren't jokes.

This is the #1 problem the current edition of D&D: it doesn't treat the Dungeon Master like another player with a different role at the table; it treats them like a game designer.
Then it constantly demands they be a better game designer than the actual game designers.

I really like Pathfinder but I recognize that I'm in the core audience: people who enjoy reading 700-page rulebooks packed full of rules for every situation imaginable
April 29, 2025 at 2:07 AM
I wonder how much of this is just a knowledge problem. My experience is that a lot of the people playing D&D just *don't know* how many other types of RPGs there are, and when they're only given the D&D-hammer, every type of setting or genre looks like another nail.

Eight years ago, Hinton projected AI would outperform radiologists in five years.
How is that any different than evangelical Christian communities where people (especially women) are discouraged from certain career fields because of the impending return of Jesus?

The “Godfather of AI” Predicted I Wouldn’t Have a Job. He Was Wrong.
Nobel Prize winner Geoffrey Hinton said that machine learning would outperform radiologists within five years. That was eight years ago. Now, thanks in part to doomers, we’re facing a historic labor s...
