Me all day thinking about my attempt last night to get the 'Most Punctual' achievement in Baby Steps where I finished the game in 2hrs 4min and then learned the trophy is under 2hrs and carrying a specific item.

"Who should tighten their belt for the sake of the economy? Companies making a profit but just a slightly smaller profit? Or human being being thrown into poverty? A very complex problem."

"Workers are so in demand that they are able to demand higher wages. Not wages that prevent companies from making a profit, just from making profits even higher than they already are. We need there to be less jobs so workers are willing to work for less."

"More people needing to be in poverty so that workers are willing to accept a lower quality of living and stop wanting to buy things"

I did it. I defeated Baby Steps. What a masterpiece.

Standalone Outlook on OSX has started this very distracting constant autocomplete option and I can't for the life of me figure out where to turn it off. Any tips?

A fun fact is seeing this Edge in EB is probably responsible for me getting into game criticism and smart game writing at all. Bought it for the clickbait, stayed for the great articles.

I went to see Marx’s graves and honestly it was a little bit emotional.

I'm looking at an old 1998 game dev magazine for reasons and came across this ad. The reason I never get excited about new technology is it's just the same promises over and over and over again forever. This could easily just be about a genAI NPC system.

At GCAP, listening to a keynote about the game industry's problem with institutional memory, and thinking back to my own GCAP 2019 keynote and the existential crisis this slide caused for every 30-something year old dev in the room. Wonder how many of them are still here.

Splitting the streams now sorry but one last banger quote for you
September 29, 2025 at 11:50 PM
Ha I was just coming back to share this quote from a few pages later, which I read as 'it's not automation that's the problem but automation primarily for the sake of expanding the accumulation of capital'
September 29, 2025 at 11:25 PM
I know it's a real cliché but I still think Karl Marx is one of the most important theorists to read if you want to understand capital's obsession with generative AI. This is from pg 692-93 of the Grundrisse.

oh and if it’s interesting, Ian also made Red Desert Render, which is the game on the cover of The Videogame Industry Does Not Exist and I think you can see a clear lineage there

Previously there was reassurances games would be excluded from the absurd definition of social media. But only through these incredibly selective rules that are down to the minister of the day to flip and choose. Clearly not a reliable system.
