many maskers I know will publicly make the economic argument over any other because it's simply too hard to debate and deflates all the emotional angst about a supremely logical choice

Anyway, after meeting them, I never believed ultra-wealthy people who let me into their offices were very smart or skilled. Always abundantly clear that even with less money & power, my comrades & I enjoy far richer lives. Genuinely shameful sustainable media careers often require obsequiousness.

I worry many journalists don’t leave interviews with extremely wealthy people unimpressed. They should, more than ever. This is professionally complicated when we’re expected to write nice things when granted access. Unfortunately I too have written bland crap about insidiously boring rich people.

I’ve interviewed at least three billionaires in person & more by phone. Single biggest takeaway? They aren’t special. In fact, they were hella boring, unimaginative, kinda socially inept with my straight talk, and also condescending but again really awkwardly. Not aspirational! Rich but pitiable.

And again I say it: stop loving politicians and celebrities and Supreme Court justices and start loving your actual values. And if the ppl you revere don’t share those values? Then maybe, baby, they aren’t worthy of your reverence

obvious secondary point: look for the tiny groups that truly need your $25. with respect to the work they do, behemoths like the red cross will definitely survive without your contributions, whereas hyperlocal mutual aid groups stretch every donation sooo far

my patience has increased but I will say, it is ok to have trouble reading, it is not ok to scream at people for things you imagined they said because you can't read what they actually said

yeah I’m also passionately in favor of perm DST! which I don’t think is generally favored? but not switching would be an improvement, even if I’ll never understand the people who want more light at 6am and not 6pm 🙄

how Californian tragicomic is it that we voted on it but now they’re studying the impacts? I do think congressional approval could be complicated tho calmatters.org/politics/cap...
Why daylight saving time is starting again in California
Voters authorized the Legislature to go to standard or daylight saving time year-round, but nearly six years later no law is on the books.
