Enormous news for US literature. A new, Mellon-led, $50 million fund for nonprofit literary orgs and publishers. Closest thing we've ever had to it was Mellon and Wallace in 1991, which, in today's dollars, was still less than half this. Open call begins Nov 10. literaryartsfund.org/about/

Someone I followed about a month ago, who has posted many times since then, just messaged me to ask why I unfollowed them.
I was kind of surprised they even noticed, but the truth is I did it because they didn't follow me back. That's fine, no sweat, but I'm here for something more mutual.

Aldous Huxley wrote to George Orwell to congratulate him on Nineteen Eighty-Four and argued the future would look more like Brave New World, with consent engineered by pleasure and habit more than fear. He was right. Orwell was, too.

When I started writing my book, Afterward, it came from a seed planted twenty years earlier—a partly true story. It grew out of my anguish at hearing it, as I filled in the empty spaces and asked, “What if?”
I’d be grateful if you’d take a look—buy it, borrow it, or leave a review. ❤️
