No matter what, someone's external interpretation will alter the text. At the end of the day, that's simply the price we pay for not being able to read the author's mind.

I saw an argument the other day that the audiobook narrator brings their own interpretation to the text, and therefore you're listening to someone else read. Which, sure. But for that matter, the book as a physical object also brings an interpretation to the text. Font, cover image, etc.
