Hey. I know everyone is concerned about books getting banned. I understand the instinct to hide them away. Kindly, do not go to your local library and steal their copies of commonly-banned books in an effort to preserve them. Please. We need those so other people can, like, read them.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Remember those who have been killed, injured, abused, tortured for being who they are.

Remember those who have taken their own lives because they could not live in a world where they could not be themselves.

Remember them. And make the world remember them.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared.

Sure, I'm scared. That's a reasonable response.

More than that, though. More than that, I'm combusting with anger. My lip is bloodied. My cheek is bruised. I'm not abiding this anymore.

Many of us are echoing @timothysnyder.bsky.social's lesson in On Tyranny, "Do not obey in advance.”

A no less vital admonition that deserves attn:

STAND OUT

“...without that unease, there is no freedom. The moment you set an example, the spell of the status quo is broken, and others will follow."

Up until about three weeks ago, I was convinced that 1. I could not cook and 2. it is more expensive than eating out as a single person.

#1 is incorrect, though I have a few burn scars to show for it.
#2.... jury's still out. I think in the long run I will save money - if I can keep it up.

Like many people, I've done a lot of soul-searching post-election. Evaluating if my visceral emotional response to the results is overreaction or underreaction.

I think that my response is right on the money.
