Made myself a little color palette picker for my graphic novel! 🎨

At first, I used CSP's built-in color palette, but I found this method much faster. Plus, it automatically converts my tool into a color picker when I tap inside the sub view!

Highly recommend this book for any artist that wants to create comics/manga!

It's called "All Faces" and includes 24,908 faces from One Piece panels. It's a great study tool to see character faces at different scales or as inspiration for expressions.

Had a lot of fun drawing the chateau in my graphic novel. Could I just draw pretty houses and parties all day long please? ❤️

This scene I'm working on makes SketchUp worth the cost. Took me about 10 mins to set up and will save me a TON of time drawing chairs from different angles with this as a reference. 🪑

Shoutout to Sakura Oriko for her amazing reference books! All of her books are wonderful for inspiration, but this one in particular is a favorite (かわいい女の子の衣装デザインアイデア帳). 💗

Making not only character height sheets, but also commonly used object height sheets has been helpful in keeping my character heights consistent across my graphic novel.

Do you draw speech bubbles while you ink the panels (characters, setting, etc.) or do you do all of your speech bubbles first? 💬

I like to add all of my panel borders and speech bubbles before I draw everything else at the ink stage, but would love to hear what others do!

Obsessed with this Clip Studio tool that let's you delete the outer edges of speech bubbles by drawing a rectangle! ✨️

Happy New Year, everyone! (: Excited to kick things off for the new year with a new Substack which I'll be posting later today. In the meantime, here's a photo of some highlights of my 2024. Wishing everyone a wonderful 2025!

Quick tip for anyone using InDesign to format their book! You can go to Window > Interactive > Bookmarks to create links to pages. I like to sort them by location so I can draw all of the soccer scenes at once in my graphic novel to speed up the process. (I also like to categorize with emojis. 😄)

Adding a timer to my process has been a gamechanger. ⏰️ It forces me to only spend a certain amount of time on a part of my graphic novel and has also been a good way of tracking how long it takes me do different steps.

If you're using Clip Studio Paint, auto-actions will save you a TON of time! Not only can you make one for individual pages like this video, but you can also apply them to all of your pages in a project file by going to "File" > "Batch process...". It has saved me so much time with layer management.

Fun little tracker I made when I started thumbing my graphic novel. 💛 Still working on a blog post about my thumbs recap (a lot of unexpected life events happened this past week), so stay tuned!

Here's another really great technique for comic thumbnails/storyboarding that involves labeling the characters with letters (ex: A or B) or contextual labels (ex: Thief).

Sample by Yuto Tsukuda, the creator of "Food Wars!". Found this in "The Shonen Jump: Guide to Making Manga" book.

First, I made the spread template using Adobe XD, then printed it out and used the Japanese 4-hole book binding technique to hold everything together. Afterwards, I added tape for security. It was a great way for me to test out different dynamic layouts at a small scale before detailing on an iPad.
