I'm not talking about fetishy writing, that is obviously less fun, but there is plenty of stuff that isn't fetishizing

I also have a lot more patience for this when it's amateur writing -- published books should absolutely put in the work to make things more accurate/authentic

I didn't realize you were on here! It's A Living is great, one of my favorite stories right now, I would highly recommend it (and I can't wait to see how it ends)

I determined I have enough hatred for Windows and MacOS (in their own unique and separate ways):

if you wanna switch to or even just try Linux and need help, I will show up at your house with a thumb drive and provide whatever technical assistance is necessary
November 19, 2025 at 4:27 AM
There's always going to be a learning curve when switching to another OS, but for many workflows, I don't think modern desktop Linux is actually any harder to use than Windows, people just haven't been exposed to it already

Whenever I boot up Windows I'm always horrified by the user experience tbh

You get Pop!_os from system76 (which you can install on anything), which is a flavor of Ubuntu that I've heard mostly good things about and seems pretty approachable

I don't think you'll have to do that much more work than for any other OS (if you're buying a laptop that's specifically supported)
November 19, 2025 at 3:55 AM
Yeah, system76 or maybe one of the Dell laptops would be my recommendation as well, although I haven't used either

(I suspect the same is true among most existing Linux users, they just buy whatever laptop and then install Linux on it)

It's a disaster.

When her date invites her to spend some time in the park later that week, wanting to learn more about the flowers, it's not like she can actually say no. It would be far too suspicious.

But she'll just go on this next date, really sell the story, and then break things off. Easy.
November 18, 2025 at 2:17 AM
Worse still, when she finally has the chance to ask her date some personal questions, she's so incredibly passionate about her sewing projects that the follow-up questions practically ask themself. By the time she can stop herself, they've been at the coffee shop for three hours
November 18, 2025 at 2:17 AM
Unfortunately, the other woman shows up on time, obviously dressed up nicely. She's not gay, of course, but she can tell that her date is objectively pretty.

When they meet, the woman has the audacity to ask her thoughtful questions. She even appears to be listening closely to her answers
November 18, 2025 at 2:17 AM
She obviously can't tell her date that she's straight, it would inevitably get back to her grandma. Nothing escapes that woman.

But she's sat through plenty of bad dates before, even if she isn't into women at all, this can't be *that* much worse than any of those.
November 18, 2025 at 2:17 AM
Her grandparents can't possibly know more gay people, it's shocking that grandma even organized this one date.

All she has to do is go on a single date with a woman and find something to complain about.
November 18, 2025 at 2:17 AM
Grandma's friend from church has a lesbian granddaughter, grandma reluctantly (but still insistently) sets them up on a date. If she flat out refuses, the whole charade will be up

I already knew this coworker was extremely chill (she was the first coworker who I told I was trans/went to for advice), but if I hadn't already known, this would have been a huge clue that I could trust/rely on her
November 14, 2025 at 6:06 PM
Shocking: celebrating your child's self-expression is more fun for everyone than trying to control it. You don't have to decide everything for them, and that's a very good thing
November 14, 2025 at 6:04 PM
One of my coworkers has a daughter (in her teens) who just decided she wanted to be called something else. Not a trans thing in any way, she just wanted a different name

My coworker is clearly thrilled by this whenever she talks about it, I don't even know her daughter's "deadname"

I think you can actually have this balanced (although maybe a bit silly lore wise) if there are special spells that ONLY work via a blade.

A devastating chain lightning spell has been invented, but needs to start with conductive metal making contact with the enemy.

Yeah I'm definitely not super active on fedi either tbh, probably for the best to not spend too much time on social media
October 26, 2025 at 2:33 PM
Yup, although I'm generally more active on fedi, as you can see
October 26, 2025 at 2:28 PM
I have actually updated my name on my degree (although not the physical copy, which is totally lost as far as I know), and I still don't have much desire to have it on the wall

I do have quotes from smut I've written on my wall, *that* was an actual accomplishment
October 26, 2025 at 4:21 AM
Wow, technically interesting things AND books. Maybe I should get around to joining the conjured ink discord
October 22, 2025 at 6:32 AM
In general, if I really need/want to see a post, someone will link it to me in a DM (often the author)
October 9, 2025 at 1:32 AM
In the end, I (personally) just had to accept that I wouldn't see every post, even from the small subset where I would theoretically want that, and that's an okay thing. I see posts when I'm online, and maybe spend a bit scrolling through history, but accept that I didn't see everything else
October 9, 2025 at 1:31 AM
I've tried making increasingly smaller lists of people I care about seeing all posts from (mostly on mastodon, but same difference), and that hasn't helped with the "too much time" thing, especially when I came back to it after a longer break than my usual
