We wrote a post about the moderation infrastructure that we introduced last week at ISRII '25.

In short, we created a voting system for various automated agents to moderate content originating from user-generated or large language model contexts. We're using this system to improve rule-based bots.

We're using AIs and machine learning classifiers to moderate content before passing that on to human beings.

My @bric.digital co-founder @ericka.bric.digital wrote a nice piece on this today.

Our pitch has been to be a pseudo-@alt18f.bsky.social, but instead of serving the gov't, we would serve the research community.

Part of that is showing where the landmines are so that others don't step on them.

This piece has been a long-time coming, and charts the direction of the rest of my career in software: building scientific code and infrastructure in a manner that benefits science across the board.

It's an interesting time to embark on this project, but lean times create solid organizations.
I've finally finished a minor manifesto on how we're developing software infrastructure at BRIC, alongside with an announcement that the open-source tools and components that I've been developing for the past decade (and then some!) now lives under the BRIC non-profit umbrella.
