I don’t open Facebook often because meta is such an abhorrent corporation— but to that point, when I do open it, it’s full of AI generated conservative propaganda slop. These are suggested to me in my feed I did not seek a single one out or even go to the reels section this was in my feed.

Critically endangered and one of the few fragrant hibiscus species— Hibiscus arnottianus subsp. immaculatus(or kokiʻo keʻokeʻo in Hawaiian) is a total stunner and blooming for the first time in my collection(maybe 3+ years?). It’s only found on the island of Molokai.

According to bumble Sen. Steve Roberts has recently moved to Florida(yet remains in office in the Missouri State Senate?) and wants someone who will make him “question my moral compass”.

Lotus that have this loose petal configuration are referred to as “flying” or “drunken” flowers. This is a heritage variety called “Drunken Concubine” and the blooms change in color over the few days they are open starting pink fading to yellow-peach

Timeline cleanser: micro lotus! Nelumbo nucifera “Xiamen bowl” in FULL bloom. This cultivar doesn’t exceed 18 inches. The true species is closer to 6 feet.

This undescribed species of Anubias is about to bloom! It was collected in Cameroon in 2009. When I got my hands on it from one of the people on the expedition— he told me I was the first person he had given a piece to and that the only other people growing it were on that trip. Truly one of a kind.

I was going door to door this morning in the Ville as part of Action’s the People’s Response. One man I spoke to pulled his neighbor and his dog from his collapsed home after the EF3 tornado made a direct hit on this block. He also went out into the storm and grabbed two neighbor girls to shelter.

From the birth of endangered Grevys zebra, a live bill signing to benefit UMSL, praise for our open arms for immigrants, and of course the new flag, there is lots to be proud of in St. Louis County! #StateOfTheCounty

While Missouri’s Capitol was home to more bullshit— I was in the Capitol of Puerto Rico which is oh so gorgeous. A round drive with labeled spots for each lawmaker, tiled mosaics of each municipality, and of course the oceanfront real estate.

The worst of the trump administration will be enforced by third party actors: tech companies, financiers, and corporations, who feel inclined to continue their dork circle jerk masquerading as an executive branch. This is a government for self described “nice guys”.

Just rewatched the rerelease of The Substance and the straight man in my row was laughing as elizasue broke down and it is just such a pointed reminder that girls/gays/theys are conditioned about their bodies in a fundamentally different way that I wasn’t prepared for tonight.

Potting up some gladiolus from seed! G. aureus is critically endangered in the Western Cape of South Africa and G. equitans is basically unknown in cultivation. Extra seeds go into the vault(an old mini fridge from my boss) kept at 40F and 30% humidity with silica packets.

Fruit, to seed, and now back to flower buds! More and more of the very rare Monstera obliqua babies are coming!

Did you know plants in the genus monstera also make runners? Just like garden strawberry plants this M. gambensis decided it didn’t like its spot and is pushing a long runner through the terrarium and eat node has the potential to become a new plant.
