In the end I gave her as much kindness and positivity as I could find, including the fact that as terrible as people were to her today, they were at least kind to her child.

While that helped her deal with the overwhelming dread of being the “main character” on Threads for a day, I’m left uneasy

People attacked every aspect of her life. And she eventually caught up to it to delete her account.

I talked to her through everything and gave her some advice, as I’m no stranger to angry online mobs acting like wild rabid animals because they believe it’s ok to be awful in the name of “activism”

The parasocial mob demanded justice—many discussed calling CPS and that she doesn’t deserve to have children.

Imagine being so angry about a post out of context that you actually call CPS to try to take a child away from her mother.

People say and do some horrible things in the name of “justice”

It was only at 500k when I noticed, thought she looked familiar, and looked her up on Facebook to realize we have a ton of mutual friends because I grew up with her younger sister.

I reached out to her, but she wasn’t paying attention to the Internet. In the time it took, the angry mob doubled

Meta is evil, exhibit 26383920550473

TL;DR—a 49yo woman unknowingly crossposted from her private Facebook account to public Threads.

It was two photos of her biracial daughter.

In 10 hours, over 900,000 people gathered in an angry mob to call her racist, bad mom, etc. and it turns out I know her.

This clip lives rent free in my head every time there’s a debate over AI.

Ummm why does the Nevada Department of Transportation think I need to know this to operate a motor vehicle?

What does this have to do with transportation?

This has to be who he’s talking about. He maybe deleted some posts, but there can’t be two guys spending the last month posting publicly about stalking a woman on LinkedIn right? Right?!?

Tangentially related, my most popular post this month was calling out a fake Jacob Elordi account posting a bunch of AI altered pics of him.

Gannett did its best to explore how AI is impacting indigenous cultures, although probably shouldn’t have led with a white lady turning Sacajawea into AI slop. www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2...

Mark Puente, an Ohio-based investigative reporter for The Marshall Project, posted this story to LinkedIn.

TL;DR—while attempting to sit in and observe court cases as a credentialed journalist, he was removed from the courtroom.

Switchfoot holds an annual contest for fans to create the cover art for thier re-release of the Backstage EP.

This year’s winner was found to be AI, and they don’t seem to want the heat, so the band found a way to save face for everyone involved while not using AI slop on their album cover.

The Calgary Flames are the worst team in the NHL this season, and head coach Ryan Huska is so desperate, he consulted ChatGPT for help.

Not only is ChatGPT prone to misinformation under even the best circumstances, it’s a language model not designed to do the type of math problem he tasked it with.

Kim Kardashian says she uses ChatGPT but only to ask for legal advice. She then immediately clarifies that it’s always wrong and caused her to fail several tests. All this is while hooked up to a lie detector for Vanity Fair.

This is a fantastic resource!

Since Q2 2023, there have been 340 legal decisions regarding the usage of generative AI in legal filings.

64 resulted in a monetary sanction.
38 led to disciplinary referral.

AI won’t take your job.

Someone using AI, despite acknowledging their company explicitly bans it, will.

And then they’ll post it online for the whole world to document them openly admitting to knowingly violating company policy and misusing sensitive data to complain.
